..Out of curiosity how big a humidor can you use one of them in..they look kinda small.

in a plastic humidor the manufacturer recommends 1 per 50 cigars.

I'm thinking their recommendations may be overkill because they have to cover all situations.

Plus, I think that actual conditions - how well cigars are conditioned already, temp, stability of r/h level, how often you access the humidor all play into it.

I just started using them to give them a try, some of these guys with more experience may well give a better answer.

The directions from Boveda say each packet is good for 25-50 cigars, depending on size.
Boveda also provides 65%, 67%, 69%, 70%, and 72% humidity level packets.
I use the 72%. I discovered that I can use less packets with the higher humidity level.
Any time I get a bunch of cigars, like the end of this week, I dry box them for a couple days and then put them in the humidor. The sticks need to lose some of their moisture from being penned up in cellos and a box.

But even after the dry boxing, adding 25 or more cigars to a humidor will cause the humidity level to raise without adding additional Boveda packets.
I wait a week and check my hygrometers. I make it standard practice to have 3 digital hygrometers in every humidor. It's a great way to check and confirm humidity levels.
I then add or remove any packets. Always add only one at a time and then check back in a day or so before adding more.

I've also discovered that Boveda packets are a great way to season a new humidor. And I NEVER wet down the Spanish Cedar.
Here is a great video of Kurt Keppel (Kurt Xikar) showing how to season a humidor on youtube:
