Rules against taking Pictures at the Alamo

Can anyone explain why there is a ban on taking pictures at the Alamo?

Ocho was there Sunday and was told that he could not take pictures with his Ipod. He saw some keys in a display case and thought it would be a cool picture. Some guy working there told him no pictures are allowed.

So then he saw Crocket's rifle and had to have a picture of that. The guy came running over again and said if he caught him taking pictures again he would kick him out.

What is this about???? Is there a reason?

The Alamo, like many other museums, asks patrons to not photograph exhibits for several reasons. Repeated exposures to camera flashes fade certain types of artifacts. Additionally, the Alamo church has been designated a shrine by the State of Texas and as such is a place of reverence and reflection.

That's better than any reason I can come up with.

Good job Drafter.

While I disagree, that al least makes sense.

Essentially the little boy that made his own nickname up can't hear or doesn't listen to what people say to him. No pictures means no pictures no matter how it's done.

that's what I take from the OP

He's a texan. What were you expecting? The Alamo is monument to losing to the Mexicans. Now that I think about it, the whole state of texas is now a shrine to losing to the Mexicans.

Of course there are no pictures allowed.

That's why you have to REMEMBER the Alamo.

Texas has made everything surrounding the Alamo tacky and commercial. Perhaps they don't want pictures because if evidence gets out of how they have commercialized and bastardized a "holy" site no one will ever visit it.

That land all around Alamo should've been preserved and should've been a battlefield museum instead they pissed on it more than Ozzie ever did.

The Alamo is hallowed ground to Texans. Not just a museum but a shrine to those that died there.
Yes the area around it is cheesy....

Most museums allow photos, although some don't allow flash photography. I've taken pictures of the Mona Lisa in the Louvre as well as various other exhibits in in Europe and the US. The most militant anti-photo was the sistine chapel, the poor guards there just have to yell at people all day, and almost none of the visitors speak the same language.

This is one of my personal favorite parts of the tour. Please say hello to our residents, Pedro and his wife Inez. Inez is holding a clay pot that she seems very proud of. She has carefully detailed it with lots of paint and glaze. And Pedro is working on an "adobe." Can you say that with me? "Adobe".

There's no basement at the Alamo!

Finally, a post that's on point. Nicely done. I thought similar.

Btw, are the human exhibits of indigenous life as corny as they were depicted in Pee Wee's movie?Beer

I went about 15 years ago and there was no rule against photography.

They did, however, frown upon public urination.
Something about it being a church and all.
