I'm looking to get everyone's opinion. What are some must try everyday smokes and some must try "special occasion" smokes?

That's a tough question. The ones I'd suggest as "must try" would probably make a new stick smoker puke. Three years ago I would have said you must try Drew Estate Natural. Now, however, I can't really cope with them.

Must try from me would be. AJ Fernandez oval line, Oliva V, and of course Padron 1964 or 1926.
There are sooo many I can think of a "must try" cigar.

As odd as this may sound, one called the "Punisher" is one, too. It's kind of novelty, but once in a while it's OK.

I haven't met my favorite cigar yet. There at a ton of 'em I really like but as my mood and taste change, so does my choice of stogie.

Randy

Oh, LFD sucks too, don't bid on those either.

Stick with ZRX's recommendations, he's smarter than anyone else here.

Anything Oliva is great. Both the budget friendly Olivas and the more expensive Serie V lines are all good smokes, but my favorite oliva line would be the Cains and specifically the Cain F... That is if you like a lot of spice.

I second the AJ Fernandez suggestion. Ovals are the best, and the new world as well. If you want a good budget cigar bid for man o war Puro authentico on this bangin website called CIGARBID!!

Also some boutique brands I'd watch for in 2016
Warped
Crowned Heads
Caldwell
Ezra Zion
Sam Leccia (blender)
Hendrick Kelner Jr (blender)
Foundation Cigar Company
Hammer and Sickle
Boutique Blends
Viva Republica
Roma Craft
Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust

I suppose I should have said these are most likely "special" occassion smokes, unless you're a Rockefeller.

for opinions, you'll get a ton here.

for answers...you "must try" in order to find your opinion.

Just my opinion, but what do I know? I'm like a idiot.

Enjoy the journey, that's the best part.

For my money, try some lanceros. It's pretty common that most new smokers ignore the vitola for various reasons:

Illusions HL candela is a must try, I know the wrapper thows most people off, but these are great and not that expensive
Cain F lanceros are a great lancero and are a good value
My Father no. 4 are nice

Then there some relativley common cigars in non-mainstream vitolas that are excellent:

Oliva V no.4
CyB lonsdale club
Quesada Espana corona

Although more than a few have already been mentioned, here's my $0.02 on must try everyday and special smokes:

A. Fuente 8-5-8 Cameroon
A. Fuente 8-5-8 Maduro
A. Fuente Hemingway Short Story Cameroon
A. Fuente Hemingway Best Seller Maduro (...priced reasonably and seemingly much easier to find than the Short Story Maduro...)
A. Fuente Magnum R44
Crowned Heads Jericho Hill
Cuban Crafters Cupido Tuxedo
Drew Estate MUWAT Bait Fish
Oliva Serie G Maduro
Padron #X000
Tatuaje 7th Reserva
Tatuaje Petit Cazadores Reserva

Special occasion:
A. Fuente Anejo #77 Shark
Crowned Heads Las Calaveras
DPG 10th Anniversary
Padron 1964 Anniversary Series
Padron Serie 1926

But, only you'll be the judge of what you like and chose to smoke on a regular basis. Good luck in your search.

All of the big cuban marcas are worth a try
Something like the La Aurora Preferidos Treasures sampler is great to try if you are starting to get into cigars. You get to try the same cigar in 6 different wrappers and you can learn a lot about what a wrapper can do for a cigar. Figure out what wrappers you like and look for more cigars with that wrapper.
Try an AF 858 sungrown and a Padron 2000, then try an Opus X at some point and one of those fancy Padron anniversaries. See if you can tell the difference, then do it again in 6 months and see if you think any different.
