xrundog --- ufortunately, they will never be plentiful, here ... or anywhere else.
I talked with John the other day, and they are already out of several of their top brands (Full Sails being one of them). They now have to wait until their next batch is ready to sell ...
Over retail already? Maybe the Peg Leg's are getting close, but the Clasico Maduro Churchill is far from it.
Where have you seen the MSRP on these?
Bucanero is not a huge factory. The are a 'boutique' (Robert hates that word) outfit that will not sacrifice quality for quantity. All their cigars are aged 3 to 5 years (depending on the line), and once they get them in, they hold them an additional 6 months before they let them go ...
Considering the extrememly limited tobacconists that offer Bucanero cigars (only ten in the entire state of California) with many states not having even one ... these prices are totally resonable.
At you neighborhood tobacconist ... you won't find any of the Bucanero's under $6-$8. The same cigar in CA will sell for $12 ...
Folks here are used to 'discontinued' and 'close-out' brands that they can get at rock-bottom prices ... but they have to realize that these are super-premium cigars, some just released.
Besides ... Bucanero cigars won "Best of the Cigar Industry Awards for the 20th Century --- out of 778 cigar ratings over a four year period, and was ranked One of the Top Five Boutique Cigar Manufacturers Worldwide" ... not to forget the high ratings it has received in various publications.
Bottom line is ... having smoked at least one of the several of the different lines they offer, all the hype the receive is well deserved ... it's a cigar that very few others can even come close to in comparison.
