C'mon you have got to realize that the REAL reason gas is so friggen high is because of all the greedy bastards that speculate on the commodities market who are in cahoots with the producers to keep the flow restricted to artificially inflate the price.

Our president is not the all powerful leader you portray him to be, and neither was Clinton or Bush Sr. Realistically we haven't had a truly Strong Leader since FDR

Bush wanted oil drilling in ANWR. Gas comes from oil. Less oil in the market means higher gas prices.

The only stupid SOB's around there are the people who voted for the individuals that halted drilling in ANWR and off the coast of the United States.

And #20 is why TW is my favorite conservative.
He knows when he's made a mistake, and ensures he doesn't keep making it again, and again, and again...

The same should go for the Dems that want Obama.
First Gore, then Kerry, and now Obama... Same verse over and over again.

liberals, or progressives, live with the hope that things can get better for most people, if certain laws are passed. as RFK said

"some people see things the way they are and ask why.
i see things the way they could be and ask why not."

the democratic party is "supposed" to be that vehicle for change.

First of all i am a conservative, not a repubican. All americans believe in the same ideals that you have stated. What i'm looking for is specifics, not bumper sticker slogans or put downs. For instance, i'm a conservative because i believe in smaller government, lower taxes, FOR EVERYONE, capitalism, and the strict interpretation of the constitution. also I believe that abortion is wrong, sorry if that affends anyone but my strong belief in God through faith in Christ his Son has changed my outlook on this issue. I simply can't support anyone who thinks its ok to murder an unborn child. I know in the past i have written some things on this forum towards dems, or liberals, but all was in jest simply to get an angry reaction from you guys. I mean no ill will towards anyone and believe in saying" to each his own" and apoligize for any hard feelings.

Progressive implies moving forward.

Nothing about liberalism is forward-looking, or forward-moving. The end result is bureaucracy and government intervention that stifles freedom.

Liberals are the most intolerant people on the face of the earth. They hate debate. They are narrow-minded. They enjoy stifiling free enterprise and free speech.

everyone agrees abortion is wrong. but people should have the right to be wrong. christians have taken their beliefs and attempted to make their beliefs the law.

they should remain beliefs and not be imposed on others.

^ What I never understood is people who are anti-abortion and pro-death penalty.

Or people who bitch about "big government" but want a constitutional amendment that would restrict and regulate relationships between private citizens.

Or people who bitch about racism and think racial quotas are ok.

Or people who bitch about our dependence on foreign oil but don't want to drill anywhere.

Or people who bitch about our government but keep voting for the same 2 parties year after year expecting things to change.

we are an imperfect specie. our opinions are predicated by the last talking head we listened to and filtered through our sense of values given us by a church or family.

basically we don't like our tranquility interrupted.
we work all week, usually at a job we don't like. when sat rolls around we want to be left alone, smoke a cigar, watch a ball game, and take a nap.

moral complexities like abortion vs capital punishment
don't interest as a set of conflicting values. we deal with one, then we deal with the other.

we really don't want to be bothered.

it's saturday.

Hi
Bush bashing is easy to do and not a sign of an intelligence. But that is Rick. He loves to stir the pot a bit, piss people off, and pick them off. Rick your a funny guy lol. You have to be retired to have this much time on your hands? How are them VS Bohemians?

But
1. The Congress has sat on there hands for years unable to work together on this problem.

A. The democrats do not wish us to drill for oil, refine coal, shale etc. (even build a refinery) in the US for fear it will go against their utopian understanding of how the world should operate. They bow to the environmental wackos in their party and ranks without care to reason or advances in technology that can help preserve the very thing they claim to be protecting. They push technology that is short sided, flavor of the month. They do not care to do anything to help smooth the transition from oil to other products (a 15-30 year proposition by some accounts), preferring instead to allow us to feel the pain of their incompetent complicity to egotistical visions of grandeur. One has to wonder where will we go if "Nuclear" is a dirty word and there is not enough wind or tidal action to supply our needs? Biofuels, perhaps but not through grain and corn as some democrats suggest (Trust me I believe it will take many such possible sources (including solar etc.) but the current office holders are without discernment and programmed against a few major sources of power we need to explore). Besides do you trust a party that proposes to tax the oil companies to help us assuage our anger/pain? Who will pay for that? You and me my friends! The democtratic leadership over regulates and acts like the super nannies of us all. At the same time they say, let us eat high prices to force our hand. When all we want is a responsible response.

B. The Republicans (until recently ) look as if they were just concerned about oil first and alternative fuels a far second. Short sighted in the fact that oil will not last forever, they should have attempted to overcome the stalemate with a bit of compromise and foresight. SUVs are fun but not at 4.00+ a gallon.

C. US the American people for not voting these idiots out of office.

Hi
Whether Rick wants to admit it or not everyone, to one degree or another, forces opinions on others even by not acting at all. This is not limited to Christians. Political systems by their very nature force ideas on the whole for preservation of the society as said forces see fit(democratic or otherwise). Rick appears to illustrates his dislike of Christians who choose to exercise their rights lol ;-) (Oh yeah Rick will respond to this one. It is like a good Pavlovian experiment lol.). I do not claim favor for how Christians act politically. Simply Christians are not the only voice out there pushing their wishes, hopes, and fears on us all. However Christian bashing is easy to do just like blaming Bush for everything; simple crude.

as said forces see fit. you don't really speak that way in real life, why post such a stunted phrase.

my daughter in law is a born again christian and she is both intelligent and articulate. her beliefs are perfectly fine with me because she makes no attempt to force her beliefs on me.

dapperdan is a christian i respect and admire.

when one religion attempts to tell me how i should live my life, they have overstepped their bounds.

blaming Bush for everything. right. this country is in deeper **** because of this one country bumpkin then it has since it's inception. if you are not able to see that, you have the problem, not me.

without going into a long diatribe, let me mention one specific instance.

ca supreme court has ruled in favor of same sex marriage, not compulsory, but voluntarily.

religious groups have decided that is what they call a sin, as determined by a book of rules they call a bible, and because of their petty little beliefs, they wish to decide how other people should live, which of course is none of their business.

there are crowds of people with big rude signs exercising their right to express their opinions and are free to do that.

when bush would appear any place, wearing a tee shirt that said anything negative would be cause for the police to remove you.

opps i mixed two different points of view.

forget the tee shirt one and let's talk about the same sex marriage point.

Hi Rick,

Rick said: as said forces see fit. you don't really speak that way in real life, why post such a stunted phrase.

Reply: Stunted Phrase? Hmmmm Well I wrote the response between my attempts to fix the OPO laser we have here in the lab. I do not have the time these days to look over things. I just seek and peck a message here and there, mostly in good fun. However I do speak/write in different ways for different circumstances. This note was just a quick squibble mistakes and all.

Rick said: my daughter in law is a born again christian and she is both intelligent and articulate. her beliefs are perfectly fine with me because she makes no attempt to force her beliefs on me.

dapperdan is a christian i respect and admire.

when one religion attempts to tell me how i should live my life, they have overstepped their bounds.

Reply: Rick you love to push people’s buttons and your ideas on others. But it does not bother me so much. I find it kind of fun. So I poke back a bit. Sorry if that is problematic.

blaming Bush for everything. right. this country is in deeper **** because of this one country bumpkin then it has since it's inception. if you are not able to see that, you have the problem, not me.

Reply: You do not understand my point but I do not expect you to. I am afraid you also do not appear to know your history quite as well as I assumed in the past. I have problems with Bush. But the gas issue is one of many that are not the sole fault of President Bush; as bad or good of a President as one might view him to be.

Best
