Burg - that IS the reason I was asked to leave and is why I stressed in the original post I was hung over and grumpy.

That was not meant to justify me snapping at the dude (I'm sure he will be ok however) but rather to paint the picture. That is the only part I feel a litle bad about, but I am sure we will both get over it.

Drinking the drink is not why I was asked to leave. As a matter of fact the dude never said ANYTHING about the drink. I did. And *gasp* I do it quite frequently and have never had a clerk have an issue with ringing up the empty and throwing it away for me.

As a matter of fact at the grocery store this morning I grabbed and drank a 20 oz diet coke throwing the empty in the basket with the food I was getting. The person at the checkout scanned the empty bottle and tossed it away for me. Thats a buck and a quarter so my crime spree is escalelating in the eyes of some in here.

But this new rebel teedubya thing is exilerating. In the last 24 hours I have:

drank a .58 drink prior to paying for it (I did pay prior to leaving store.)

drank a 1.25 drink prior t paying for it (I did pay for it prior to leaving store)

Drove 3 MPH over the speed limit for about 10 minutes.

Crossed the street outside the crosswalk likes and against the red light.

Took my seatbelt off prior to the car comming to a complete stop

and this is the biggie..... I ate a york peppermint pattie prior to putting a quarter in the honor box. I put the quarter in while I was chewin it.

someone please stop me before I become a habitual criminal or socialist or something

Lock up your children, TW's crime wave in the midwest is rivaling that of Charlie Stakweather in '58.

8 I have been doing a lot of reading and didn't realize the Wisconsin jails are loaded with perps having the exact same MO as in my original post. Upwards towards 50% of the prison population according to Amnesty International.

TW,

I was really being a puckered butthole on purpose to make a small statement.

It has been mentioned several times on boards that we are missing something in this country, we talk about the "greatest generation" (WWII folks).

Do you think your great grandfather who fought in the trenches of France would approve of consuming somethin in a store before paying for it.

My mother and father, grand parents, great grand parents wouldn't.

Maybe it is too close to memorial day weekend, but I think you cheapen the lives that have been lost fighting for this country by displaying a lack of basic character (no matter how small).

Just a thought, minimize it how ever you want.

My Wal-Mart has a Subway, and I typically go there if I need something to drink. That way, no one can accuse me of stealing something because, to my knowledge, Wal-Mart does not sell drinks with the word "Subway" on the side of the cup.

The loss control people were just doing their job, because of the entitlement attitude most people have these days, thinking that someone "owes" them something. So, they will take things, not pay for them, and that ends up costing honest people money. Loss control is a big thing these days. Frankly, the only difference between Wal-mart and Costco is that the Wal-Mart person was purposely letting you know he was watching you. And, Wal-Mart doesn't hassle you when you exit the store by making you show a receipt to confirm you're leaving with the stuff you purchased (my wife told me a story about someone she suspected was trying to exit the store with a cart full of stuff, and obviously no receipt).

So basically, teedubbya, you're complaining because someone, who is gainfully employed, was merely doing his/her job, and helping the company try to save money.

Real class.

And this is the guy who gave me a hard time talking about fraud and losses in Medicare and Medicaid.

It's probably better you not shop at Wal-Mart in the future.

^ Lack of character? What are you talking about? It's only lack of character if you are a sneaking thief and you don't pay for it. In fact, we've used instances like this to teach our children about honesty. We let them get a fried chicken tender or two to munch on while we're shopping (BTW, which Wal-Mart doesn't seem to have a problem with because they don't make you pay for it then and there). We make the children responsible for making sure the empty bag goes to the cashier so it's paid for. They MAKE SURE it gets done. Every time.

Apparently, I wasn't raised for ****. I do this all the time. I just go ahead and leave, though. I was told that they have these things by the exit doors that start beeping when you pass through them with merch that you haven't paid for yet. The beeping and lights indicate that the item has been scanned and your debit card has been charged. It seems to make the employees very happy. They always run after me yelling and cheering. To show my appreciation for the time savings, I run away too. It's a fun little game I play with the employees to brighten their otherwise drab day. Good times.

Yes, it shows a lack of respect for the rules. Is shows your children that "rules don't apply to me." It shows a lack of self control (character flaw). It shows a lack of planning (laziness another character flaw). It shows an unwarranted sense of entitlement.

So now the loss prevention folks have to waste their time following you on a camera, while the "real" thieves steal. You end up biting it in the end, by paying more. Good job.

Moral character is not about religion, it is about doing things for the right reasons. I screw up pleny, I am no saint. But I try, and I teach my daughter.

Maybe my life experiences are based on "un-training" your children when they join the Marine Corps and have no core values because their parents "justify" things all their lives by convenience or the attitudes I described above.

Do I have a bone to pick, sure. I make no apologies.

On occasion, we quiet the young ones with a snack as well but we make it a point to mention it to the cashier and it is not considered proper shopping etiquette. In fact, it probably promotes thievery. I don't blame the store if they want to protect their inventory.

TW, you are guilty of laziness for not buying the drink first, lack of courtesy to the store & clerk, and possible law- breaking in some jurisdictions but I've no doubt you are honest. Unfortunately, many if not most people, who mimic you, will steal if allowed.

Oh, and the exit sensors will not pick up on edibles consumed...

lol you guys are a trip.

Opening and drinking the water was not the problem. Yes it is why he was watching me to make sure I paid for it before I left, but there was no issue with drinking it in the store.

Gringo in answer to your dramaqueen question. I beleive it was actually more common back then to pop open a coke and pay for it at the counter as you left. It was more laid back back then than today.

Supermarkets regularly encourage you to try A grape or strawberry to see how sweet/tasty they are. Often, they have pieces of brownies/cookies in the baklery isle to try. I personally don't see a problem with it as long as you pay. Theives are going to be theives. It has nothing to do with laziness and I really don't think the Unknown Soldier is rolling in his tomb because someone chewed a piece of gum prior to checking out. I have on several occasions taken a Tums or Rolaid out of the package because I needed relief immediately.

Gringo in answer to your drama queen question….. I believe it was actually more common back then to pop open a coke and pay for it at the counter as you left. It was more laid back then than today. At least in the Midwest.

As for the connection between Memorial Day and this get a grip. Dude seriously. I live in a small town and this is very common. Get over it.

What I did do that was wrong was berating the loss prevention guy. That wasn't right. He was making sure I paid. It was his job. I was in a bad mood and did something wrong. I knew that when I typed in the story.

I would have paid on the way out. I always do. It is common here, and as I have looked into it apparently not illegal. Trust me if it was the dude would have nailed me on it. He wasn't happy.

So if seeing this differently means I am an anti-American Memorial Day pooping on bastid in your eyes that says more about you than I. If that is true then you are a judgmental self righteous summitch. But I don't believe that’s who you really are, I think you are probably either being extreme over an anonymous board, or just bound up a bit from all the nachos you ate celebrating Memorial Day.

Either way, I had another coke in the grocery store today and probably will sometime later in the week as well. I will tell you the specific time I will be there if you want to call Adam 12.

it will if you swallow the security tag lol

I left SAMs club the other day without paying for a case of Diet Coke (what is it with me and softdrinks). It was underneath the cart. I missed it, the cashier misted it and the geriatric blind dude at the door missed it.

I was out at my car, realized it and went back and paid.

Sorry if some folks want to question my ethics on the OP. I aint changing and neithr are you so eff you and eff me you slimy bastids.

So in essence, you:

1. Spend a disturbing amount of time shopping.
2. Shop in what many would consider "Ghetto" stores.
3. Drink an equally disturbing amount of soda.
4. Have a disdain for authority.
5. Have an equal disdain for self rightious summbiches.
6. Are of low moral fiber.
7. Have a sense of entitlement.
8. Have a weight problem. (could be tied to the sodas)
9. Have poor vision

Did I miss anything?

I think the idea that it is a small town means a lot. I grew up in a small town and it has unbelievable benefits ( to some people). Several years ago I needed a new air conditioner. I went in to my local hardware store and was looking at 2 different displays on sale. The owner asked if I needed help and apologized for not asking sooner but they were very busy at the time.
I told him what I needed and he told me to take which ever one I decided on and just pay the next time I come back through. I picked one up and walked out the door. A couple days later I stopped back and paid.

JHC - same experience here with furnace filter. Charged me for one, sent me with three telling me to bring the two that don't fit back the next day. Which I did.

Come to think of it I opened a diet coke from that store and began drinking it while talking to the dude (owner) and paid for it on the way out.

I also farted in isle 12.

This whole thing has me thinking though. I was rude to the dude. I do admit that is wrong.

I think I will take him flowers.

I will pick them up in the front of the Walmart. Take the bar code off. Give the dude the flowers and apologize then take the bar code up front to pay. Out of respect I will not buy or drink a soda.

TW you need to come up here to Lincoln, NE someday and have a cigar at the cigar shop. There is a catch, it is completely illegal to smoke inside a cigar shop in Lincoln so it would be,.... gulp.... against the law.
