Mazarati - Self-Titled

"100 MPH"

https://youtu.be/JFHljkRW6Yg

Not the one off their album...this is an extended mix...but enough to get the point. Prince was a genius. This was probably as close to his own band as the sound ever got.

TOTALLY AGREE~

With regards to the Fab Four and their solo discographies this is how I rank them...

I listen to George Harrison's the most. Its the most diverse with attention to detail and musicianship.

Next, is Ringo Starr's. I got hipped to it after seeing one of his All-Starr Band concerts. Their is a lot of depth to them that goes unnoticed by the world. It's a shame too. There are a LOT of great songs that you've never heard there.

Then John Lennon. It's like an acid dripped alcohol fueled anger ridden voyage into the ravages of his artistry. When it's good it's damned good. When it's awful...well everyone knows awful. It's like stepping in dog crap. You know it when you did it! There are some songs that you NEVER EVER want to EVER hear again!

Finally Paul McCartney. Silly Love Songs. That song really defines him and his entire body of solo work. He needed the other 3 ESPECIALLY John for writing material that sticks. I find his work to be poppy for a man of his caliber and demeaning but that's what he chose to do with his work.

Enjoyed and agree with most of your comments. I never listened much to Ringo’s solo albums but always liked the stuff on the radio. Will need to delve into Ringo more.

There was a time when I liked Paul more than John...not sure what drugs I was on. Gonz

More from Lennon’s “Signature Box”

“Mind Games” tonight. Other than the title track, another forgettable Lennon album.

Think I’ll forego the rest of the box set for later.

Let me know what you think of them.

Started out a bit rough for me but that's because he's on his own with no John/Paul guiding the way. His last album, What's My Name was a really great all around record.

Will do. ThumpUp

As far as “Sentimental” goes, well, all I can say is I’m glad I got that out of the way.

Hoping that this is better than “Sentimental”.

Edit: 5 songs in. Found out that the album was recorded in Nashville...explains a lot. Think I’m gonna be relieved when this one is done.

Rush - Caress of Steel

Their least known early work. Between Fly By Night and 2112. Universally panned, they were told if they made another album like this they would be dropped by the label. Their next album was to be NORMAL songs or else. So they made 2112......lol

CoS is my favorite Rush album. It's just chock full of interesting hooks and guitar solos. I also think it's the album that mostly highlights Geddy Lee's voice as just another instrument. Especially on the Necromancer Part III. The Return of the Prince.

Agreed. One of my favorites. Love that Rush decided to record what THEY wanted, and not what the record company wanted.

The Struts - Strange Days

"Am I Talking to the Champagne (Or Talking to You)"

https://youtu.be/rRLTlryamaU

Having listened to this twice through, this is my favorite track off the album. Kinda like the Rolling Stones "Emotional Rescue" sandwiched with BOC's "Joan Crawford".

The China Virus robbed the world of seeing this band live from me...had VIP tickets for The Beacham in Orlando. This tour was supposed to be the warm up for them for the opening slot on AC/DC's world tour. We'll see if that still happens. As for seeing The Struts in a small club again...probably not gonna happen again.

Self-titled 1971 album, recorded in a converted chicken house in Wray's back yard using a 3 track recorder. It's a mix of Blues, Gospel, and just good ol stompin swamp rock & roll. An AMAZING album....

Kinda had enough of Ringo’s’70s studio stuff so opted for a live album instead. Nice to hear “How Long” sung by Paul Carrack. Always enjoyed the All-Starr Band format.

I’ve always liked Ringo. He’s definitely the Beatle I would like to have a drink with (...although I think he’s been sober for 20+ years...). I wanna listen to a couple more of his later recordings before answering your question.

Oh man, Linda was a HONEY back then! Was lucky enough to see her 3 times - 1970 at the Crater right after she left the Stone Poneys and then in ‘74 and ‘75 both at the Waikiki Shell. In ‘74 The Eagles opened for her then in ‘75 the script got flipped as she was the opening act. For some odd reason, I vaguely recall Jackson Browne appearing and sitting in on a couple of songs but I could be totally wrong...you know, that was a lotta years ago.... fog

Side note for any Little Feat fans - their first performance was at that 1970 Crater festival so got to see them too.

Their newest. They're not Yes, Genesis nor even Porcupine Tree. Another Prog band that I really really enjoyed back in the day that I can't believe is still putting out great music! Let's see if they have the gas in the tank to outlive Covid19 and I get to see live again. Them with BOC or Uriah Heap would be an EPIC billing!
