Ramon Bueso....was gifted a few pre-release toros. They were apparently handed out at CigarFest. The look/feel of the stick and band are similar to LP's. Reportedly uses 'stalk cut' tobacco similar to LP. Available for pre-order on the mother site for $60-$90 per box. Smoked a few...one ROTT and the others a few weeks later. Not impressed with the stick ROTT, but the two I just smoked over the weekend were very enjoyable with nice med./full body/flavor and a razor sharp burn.
Any opinions out there?? Tried them? Liked them? Think they suck?

Still have mine from Cfest. Maybe I'll torch it tonight at Dante's. Love stalk cut (LP, Torano Vertuoso, etc.). I'll get back to ya after I smoke it.

the term stalk cut is nothing new. this is how people have been "harvesting" tobacco for centuries in the U.S.

Does it make a difference in the flavor, once seasoned?

From what I understand about "stalk cut", and I may be wrong, is that the leaves are harvested with the stalk. The leaves are hung to cure, still attached to the stalk. Nutrients and sugars from the stalk work thier way back into the leaves during the curing process, giving a unique, almost tropical flavor. Don't know if this is correct, but I was told this by a well respected FOG. All I know is that I pick up unique flavors in stalk cut sticks, that I don't get in others.

Back to Genesis, The Project. I smoked mine tonight at Dantes. Got to say I really, really enjoyed this smoke. I followed it up with an Undercrown Toro, and after the Genesis, the Undercrown was a slight disapointment.

My guess on this one is that these will be very popular, and probably go close to, if not over regular retail when they finally show up here. I may take advantage of the "pre order" price and do a very rare full asking price purchase at CI. Yes, I liked it that much.

makes since to me.

When I was a kid up to a very young man I would have to work in the tobacco fields and that's how we did it. Cut
the whole plant down then "spike" it on to a big stick with multiple plants then hang it in the barn to "cure". that
was a beach!

Now, in the good ole state of MD, the government pays farmers to not grow tobacco..........

Dave, I haven't dug down into the CFest haul very deeply...yet, which one of these are you talking about? I did smoke the Man 'O War Side Project (I think it was the "Little Devil") and thought it was ok, maybe even bordering on good, but not clamoring to buy a box just for myself...yet

A voice of experience, yes that is correct, never had to help, always worked hay and vegetable crops, but my dad worked on the RR with some guys a county over that would grow their own to cure for twists and chewing. They would stalk cut most then according to desired taste either cut leaves after a short time or let fully dry out, sometimes letting the milder ones ferment in some secret mix, etc.

I went to the curing barns, there are different types according to its use, some was flue cured for cigarette tobacco. If you didn't know better you'd think the barn was on fire, hehe. Don't see that anymore, either.

Very few tobacco farmers left in TN, plan on keeping a few plants again when my health improves, too busy and missed out on New Hope Seeds tobacco plants this year. I send some to some Ndn elders, have a little for ceremonies

I'll bite, if anyone is already pre-ordering and would be interested in trading away a 5-er or 10-er, let me know.

Just looked and found mine, white wrapper which looks similar to a LP label. It says "Ramon Bueso" in small black letters. I had it in my pile of CFest cigars to give to my buddies, but will move it to my dry box of smokes to try.

I just tried the one I got at the Fest. Very good construction, nicely packed and firm. The initial pre-lite draw seemed a little tight but after the first 1/2 inch the draw was perfect with a very good smoke volumn. It seems to me a medium strength with full flavour. I am not good at describing flavours but the expresso is there and a nutty taste. The cigar is not harsh at all. I liked it.

Just smoked the one I got at CFest last night and ...meh. Agree with some of the others that the draw was tight. I tend to punch Robbies/Toro's and I wasn't getting much out of this through the first third. Didn't have my cutter on me and had to wait til I got home to clip it. I was about half way through at that point, and yes, it did open up a bit more. I still would seek this out, nor do I think it is box worthy.

I haven't ordered any yet, as I remember other smokes that where great pre-release, but the actual production sticks where a big disapointment. Let's see what folks have to say about production sticks.

Mine just landed. They should rest a bit cause the weather has been stinking hot the past week. I'll post after burning one. If they're only okay I needed some yard gars and the price was right. The pre release was tasty and burned flawlessly.
Stay tuned.

Burned one yesterday and it was every bit as tasty as the pre-release. Perfect burn, not particularly complex, but very enjoyable medium full flavor. At $60 for a box of robbies I wish I'd have ordered at least 2!

dpnewell - Your description of stalk cut tobacco is correct. While this is not new, it is not utilized often. Additionally, you will find stalk cut tobaccos in more blends than Liga Privada.

Regarding Genesis....this cigar, to the best of my knowledge, does not utilize stalk cut tobacco.

Thanks for the feedback, Steve. I didn't think these tasted like they where stalk cut, but I was taking the OP's word.

BTW, since all of you deep pocketed arsehats continue to bid higher then CI's regular price on these, I just made a (gasp) full price box purchase at CI. Of course I found a free shipping link first, so I guess that's like getting an additional $5 discount, lol.

Got the info from someone @ the Mother Ship. Was told they were stalk cut. Apparently some misinformation floating around. My apologies if I've propagated incorrect info. However, my contact at CI was spot on regarding the quality.
Stalk cut or not, I enjoy the Robusto. Can't point to anything I don't like about it. The handful of pre-release samples were very good and the 1st one out of the box didn't disappoint. Can only hope the price point remains reasonable.

Looks like folks are continuing to go "retard" on these. Folks paying $64 & $67 plus shipping for that same thing I just got from the MS for $59.95 shipped.

http://www.cigarbid.com/...Ramon-Bueso-Robusto-20/

Someone else gave $28 for a stink'n fiver last night.

If this insanity continues, I may have to make another "full price" purchase from CI, as that's the best deal going.

So, did you buy a total of 4 boxes, or 6? As I said in an earlier post, I smoked this one back to back with an Undercrown Gran Toro, and this was a better smoke. Now, what do I do with those 4 boxes of Undercrowns?

Not on the "big list of cigars" page yet. You have to do a search. May be the reason there are so many overbids here. Folks can't find them at CI.
