borndead: You assume this election has a viable third party. I would be happy to vote for RP or someone else. Unfortunately, we don't have a choice this time around unless we take up arms and overthrow the government. I could always just do a write in but that doesn't accomplish much.

What are the handful of cigar smokers on this forum going to do? Where will your vote go? By not voting, what do you hope to accomplish? If you vote, where will it go?

Easy, Chief, easy. Put the bolo knife down. No ones going anywhere...Scared
Besides, if you looked like Borndead's avatar would you leave your house???!!! Well, besides St Paddie's Day.

Let's just vote for Romney & try to take as many "independent" undecideds with us as we can.

In other words, let's keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting things to change. Is that what you're saying?

My vote will probably go to Gary Johnson. And don't gimme that 'You're wasting your vote' or 'a vote for a 3rd party will help re-elect Obama' horses#it. We've already established that there's no difference between Romney and Obama. Why do you think people lovingly refer to Romney as "Obamney"? Voting for the same candidate every election is wasting your vote. Voting for "the lesser of 2 evils" is wasting your vote. A vote for the lesser of 2 evils is still a vote for evil. A vote for liberty is always a vote for liberty.

Borndead, I respect your civic spirit & independent streak for justice and the American way at all costs. It's very noble.

What makes you think that your special fella, Gary Johnson, won't turn into the tool that you purportedly accuse Mitt of being once he enters the hallowed halls & ACTUALLY experiences the monumental task of governance which includes compromise, deal-making, etc.?

I'm betting on our ideology's best available thoroughbred for the race not the braying swayback steed with the equally noble Don Quixote.
If it doesn't work out for the best this time and Mitt doesn't keep his promises when elected, I can at least say it wasn't Obama with the proven bad record. I will then take the appropriate recourse in 4 years. Then and only then, will I probably go your route or abstain from voting all together if my alternate choice is only a Gary Johnson... Admittedly don't know much about the man other than he performed horribly during his one debate.

Seen it a thousand times. I call it the emmet grou crown disease based on the smartest burnout I knew in college that knew how everyone should think and act while the real world looked at him and said wtf?

At least in his mind he was always right cause he could always chose the loser and bitch about the winner. He never did find his big boy shoes.

The worst thing that could happen is for his guy to win and he would have to join reality. By picking the looser that never happens so he can rant in a non real world and act smug.

Yet I'm on a fence post. Reality much?

Point taken but I would still love to see a good third party candidate take the reins. If nothing else, just to shake up the establishment.
Wouldn't it be a kick in the nads if he turned into a Hitler/Stalin though?

The views I'm shouting here are not anything original or new, and I'm far from the only person saying these things. So you give me too much credit...or ridicule in this case.

I'm a Libertarian and not quiet about it. I understand that not everyone is going to agree. I'm not sitting here saying, "If you don't agree with me, you're an idiot." I'm saying that if you keep voting Dem or Rep, even in the face of sooooooooo much evidence that they are one and the same on 90% of the issues, you are a sucker. And part of the problem.

Year after year, election after election, democrats, republicans, democrats, republicans, demublicans, republicrats....and where has it gotten us? Seriously, I want an answer.

We are engaged in perpetual war. Syria and Iran are next. I would bet money on it.
We are losing our civil liberties. Some very alarming legal precedents have been set in the past decade.
Our currency has been destroyed and our economy is in shambles. The dollar is on the verge of losing its status as world reserve currency.
Our national debt is at a point that it can never be paid off, not even close. Don't kid yourself.
We've lost our respect on the world stage.
Corporations write much of our regulatory policy.

I could go on and on, but I don't need to. You all know these things are true.

I'm not coming at this from a "I'm right, you're wrong" point of view. I am simply stating facts. Things are f**ked up, and we continue to put the same clowns in office. The only thing different is the color of their clown noses.

Borndead1, how long were you w/o oxygen when you were born dead?

(j/k)

I can't say I disagree with you overall but what's the realistic alternative- more Obama?
A wise man on these boards (until he jumped on the finger- pointing, racist- calling bandwagon) once said that the President was only one third of the solution, er, problem in this case. He can only do so much other than direct (as in maneuver) legislation. Oh, and claim Executive Privilege when he wants to cover up crimes but I digress. Perhaps, you should also look to finger point at the Supreme Court AND Congress as well, for all the failings which are apparently getting you perilously angry and/or depressed. Other than that, perhaps you should call Dr. Laura. (shrugging shoulders & blinking like a mental patient w/o a clue)

You're right. The President is not the king (but Bush and Obama have pushed things in that direction). But...the President does "set the tone". And that's very important.

You're right about the other branches of government, and my rants in this thread apply to them as well. I can't remember where I saw the poll, but the participants had a more favorable opinion of Charles Manson than they did of congress. That would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic and sad. And yet, people keep voting for the same clowns. It's amazing how much bipartisanship there is when it comes to screwing us all over.

Ask yourself this: If Dems and Reps are really so ideologically opposed to each other, why is it that every really BIG piece of legislation always miraculously seems to get passed? The Patriot Act, the bailouts, S-CHIP, war spending, foreign aid, corporate welfare, even Obamacare. Any piece of legislation that puts more power in the hands of government or takes power away from the people always gets passed somehow. Much smaller bills get blocked or fillibustered all the time.

But the President has a choice when dealing with the legislature. He can either sign or veto whatever they set on his desk.

Dude,,,
You dream of Utopia,,
Never gonna happen
Once everyone was give the vote all hope was lost.. Ever wonder why only landowners were allowed to vote early in our history ?
It was because the uneducated mob rarely knows best. We are not a direct democracy but a representative democracy as it should be.

Yes, the lesser of two evils is ALL average people can hope for now...

So waste your vote, feel righteous and give Obama another term...

But, legal weed will never happen in your lifetime Shame on you

1. Who said anything about Utopia? You really think that's what the Libertarian ideal is? LOL!

2. You go ahead and waste YOUR vote. I'm gonna stand for something instead.

3. Obama gets another term even if Romney is elected. Why is it so difficult to come to terms with the fact that they are nearly alike?

4. I don't smoke weed. But...I'm a man of compromise. I'd be happy with decriminalization for smokers and legalized hemp for industrial/energy purposes.

5. Feel free to start thinking about which 5 Habanos you're going to send me in November. No teeny tiny sticks either. And none of those rock solid tent pegs from "the wonder years".

Born I get it and was being extreme. But you did say anyone voting for Romney or Obama is the problem which puts you in the only 1 percent you give any credibility to. It happens to be the only 1 % that is guaranteed knows the outcome of the election for their guy. A loss.

It's an easy position to take. Vote for neither and bitch about who wins. The I don't vote crowd comes in a close second but can't cop out to their own rhetoric.

That's a fence post.

Are you still babbling about RAND Paul's endorsement of Romney? Rand is a douche and he's been a douche since day 1. He talks a good game and his voting record and bill/amendment introduction is decent, but he panders to his audience and he's wayyyyyy too willing to "play nice" with the republican establishment, which shows that he has no backbone. I predict that he will have a long career in politics, eventually becoming a full-fledged RINO.

If by some chance Ron does endorse Romney would it "destroy" my opinion of him and ruin his legacy? Not really. Ron has made endorsements before that I wasn't thrilled about. He's even cast votes that I wasn't thrilled about. He voted yes on going into Afghanistan and I was kinda pissed about that. If by some chance he endorses Romney, I won't be happy about it but I will understand it. Fighting to change policy, or even at the very least getting your voice heard, sometimes requires that you sit at the table with scumbags.

P.S. I like Cohiba, Monte Edmundos and #2s, Diplomaticos #2s, and Vegas Robaina.

Rick, I just have to look around or pick up the phone to experience the despondency around me. No one (client or supplier) has any disposable cash in this DEAD economy and many are hanging on by a thread. Perhaps your industry is different. We will hopefully be branching out as a service provider later this year. I look forward with hope to the change.

In the meantime, Obama's concerned with worthless green jobs, paving a few crappy roads, and repealing DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act).

He's FIRED! ...and he can take his worthless sidekick Joe Gabby Hayes Biden with him. Frying pan

The two parties, aside from the far left and far right fringes, have evolved into near duplicates of one another. Sure, the Democrats have their beloved social engineering giveaways and the Republicans have their favorite big business bunk buddies but when you cut through all the bullsh*t, it's clear that most of the members in both parties are not what they claim to be.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
I'm pretty much giving up on capitalism & free enterprise on a smaller level. Will (partially) transition into HD's globalist cone of protection/prosperity via health services- one of the few sectors thriving besides Government, repossession jobs, & pawn shops. Beer Beer Beer

A vote for liberty is always a vote for liberty.

ed zachary why I keep voting Libertarian.
Give freedom a chance.

They said the same about the Catholic John F. Kennedy and his "secret" allegiance to the Vatican. RollEyes
