Why haven't you been complaining about activist County Clerks?

http://roygbiv.jezebel.com/ky-county-clerk-ordered-to-issue-marriage-licenses-agai-1726916848

Woman's been ordered to do her job a number of times, and has flat out refused. Somewhere along the line it seems like she should either get fired for refusing to do what she is told at work, or should get in some sort of legal trouble for refusing to follow the law... but what do I know....

In her case, she will suffer any consequences, not so for judges. She also isn't making up laws that others must follow. I suppose you would advocate throwing Rosa Parks into jail then?

Outrage level: zero, failure to launch

Personally, WTF do I need a licence from the government to get married? It's ridiculous racist control thing to make sure you don't marry outside your race and they want to make collect another fee. Age of consent laws cover underage brides and grooms.

Hey, I've advocated taking marriage out of the government all along. If marriage is whatever your church defines it to be and has no legal papers whatsoever, then people can finally stop whining about the government interfering with their religion.

However, this woman is NOT rosa parks. She is in a position of "power" (bureaucratic power) and refusing to do her job.

My dear family, guess what. Today I found out what my special purpose is for. Gosh what a great time I had. I wish my whole family could have been here with me. Maybe some other time as I intend to do this a lot. Every chance I get. I think next week I'll be able to send some more money as I may have extra work. My friend Patty promised me a ****. Your loving son, Navin.

You're just sore because she is following her personal religious beliefs, just wait until a mulim is in charge of liquor licenses.

Did I say I agreed with her? And no, it is still different from the power of a judge making up laws, a far more serious problem. So a few people are inconvenienced, they are just making a point. Besides, I doubt there are many, time constrained, shotgun weddings in the gay community.

No, I'm no attorney, but unless it goes to some court and a decision is rendered, it's not going to become case law.

Snowden should have just done what he was told to also.
Heck, we should all become sheep and blindly do what the guberment tells us to do, regardless of our personal moral & religious beliefs..

Call me crazy, but if the requirements of your job change and now you have a level of discomfort based on your personal beliefs, wouldn't the best solution be to find another job?

In spite of my religious beliefs, we are, by our constitution, a secular nation, not a theocracy. I respect her belief, but either do your job or resign. Simple.

Well.... if you're a government employee, it would kind of make sense to do what the government tells you to do.

I wasn't on this board when the court ruled on Citizens United. Out of curiosity, was there much outrage?

For the record, being outraged at certain newsworthy stories does not mean that you have to show equal outrage to everything.
I mean, we're not liberals here.
You seem outraged at our lack of outrage. Which is, unto itself, an outrageous outrage.

I'm outraged at that response! Outraged I tell you!

Sorry, I got confused with all the laid back non-liberal threads and responses on here. Conservatives never get outraged over every little thing. ;)

No, seriously, I was curious about that. It's fascinating to see (on both sides of the aisle) what people get worked up about and what they do not. Not passing judgment on any of it, just a student of human thinking.

In Snowden's case, that kind of defeats the point doesn't it?
If you worked for a guberment agency and the guberment agency tells you to jump of a bridge, are you going to do it?

Snowden should be in jail??? Isn't it ironic that some of the surveillance practices he exposed of the US guberment where ruled unconstitutional (illegal). But the whistle-blower himself is still considered a criminal, while the guberment isn't???

My voting precinct is actually quite conservative.
And during the Brown/Warren election only incumbent Scott Brown came to our Octoberfest.
Liz had a heap busy schedule that day.

Cacman, in snowdens case he was exposing the illegal activities the government was doing (if I remember correctly, I could misremember). In this case it's the clerk refusing to follow the law. These are not equivalents.

Snowden refused to follow the LAW by not keeping quiet and breaking his confidentiality/security clearances. (Shame on you for not remembering!)

What's the difference? In its basic simplicity, both have broken the law and refused to blindly do what the guberment told them to do.

And you've failed to address why the guberment shouldn't be held just as accountable for them breaking your constitutional rights as Snowden and the county clerk are held to.

Snowmen should be in jail. There are whistle blowing mechanisms he could have followed. There were other mechanisms as well. Instead he is blowing Putin. If he's so right let it play out in court.

It's amazing to me some think they should get to pick and choose when it's treason.

Others HAVE followed your prescribed " mechanisms " and to NO avail.

If that's an excuse to take things in to your own hands and ignore the law then I'm sure you are no longer bothered by illegal aliens.

Pick and choose when it comes to law rarely works. Treason is treason, illegal immigration is illegal immigration. Just because others tried the other path and it didn't turn out to their liking doesn't mean it's ok to break the law.

You are ok with him hanging out with Putin? He should be in jail. He can take pollards cell.

And yes illegal aliens are breaking the law and should be treated accordingly, just like snow den. Don't like the law? Change it. But until you do if you break it you should suffer the consequences.

And government officials like this clerk don't get to make the laws but they must follow it. You can't choose which you like and don't like. If that's what you want to do you must leave the position. I'll give snowmen that.

I wonder what Putin would do if snowden crosses him. Oh well there is no need. He's now someplace where the government is much more transparent than ours.

No, it's your job and if you don't do it you should resign or be fired. In this case the legislature needs to impeach the clerks to fire them, and that's why nothing has been done yet.

It's so interesting to watch these threads morph.

Yes, she should be removed from her post for refusing to do her job.

Yes, Snowden should be held legally accountable.

Yes, the people in the government who put the processes in place should be held accountable. Those that contunued the practice after the precedent was already in place? I'm of two minds on that.
