Ewok, I feel your pain. I had to put my dog down about a month ago. He was 17 yrs old. My kids are 10 and 12 yrs old and don’t know life without Madison until recently.

His body was giving out and I was trying to do all I could to keep him going. Carrying him up and down the stairs and stuff. Then a friend stopped over and talked to me… “Look at him, he wants to go… you are only keeping him here for you… just let him go…” It was very tough time and it still brings tears to my eyes thinking about it.

I know what you mean all to well Bucky. We are very lucky in the fact that Rocco is now doing better. The meds they have given has taken the mass down in size and he is now comfortable and back to his normal self. From what the vet told us Rocco will not suffer with prednisone treatment. If that was not the case we would have to make that same decision. We do know that there will come a time that he will pass due to this. Because it is the lymphatic system his immune system will fade so we are worried that if he should catch something that would make him suffer then again that dissension will have to be made. Each time the wife and I have a discussion about Rocco we both well honestly lose it. For her its about Rocco, for me its about Rocco and her. I by nature am a very empathetic person when it comes to people and animals. More so especially when it comes to my wife.

I can only imagine the emotions when you had to make that decision not only because of the dog but the kids as well. It is the price we pay to have a companion of such which really sucks.

Today is our turn........my sweet little girl,Stinky, has been fading for awhile. She has been having a hard time going up and down stairs and getting in and out of her chair,so I've been helping. Like Bucky says, I've been being selfish and my poor girl is getting tired. It's just my wife and I here ,so Stinky gets all of our attention......I work nights,so my wife is here with Stinky all night and gives her someone to talk to when I'm gone, and when I get home my wife is in bed, so I usually get my shoes off and sit chat with Stinky a bit before I go in and see my wife. We both love this little dog completely.....she has become much more than a "dog" to us........much like the family member I mentioned to Ewok the other day. I've known this day was coming for a little while, and I've selfishly postponed it for my own needs, but it can't be put off any longer..............I just made the call and we have a 5:30pm appt. Very sad day here, lots of tears, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. All the memories and good times we've had will live in my mind forever!
Thank You for all you have given us Stinky and We will always love and cherish you!

Thanks for listening guys

Brother I do feel for you both. For my wife Rocco was the one that filled an empty spot for her when she found out she could not have kids any more. For me Rocco was more for her but then later became exactly as you. He is the one I talk to allot after my stroke. For the wife and I Rocco became basically one of our kids then our best friend as well.

I will be praying for you, your wife and for Stinky. The memories are what it is really all about. With every loss I have ever had in my life be it family, friends, or companions remember the good times.

I know its bad timing but just a little advice, If you do not have any get a photo or 3 of stinky. Down the road you will want to look at them and remember after some time has went by and wounds are healed. There will be times you and the Mrs will want to reminisce. Having that visual makes it even the more greater.

Sometimes my mind wanders off to a happy place where I'm allowed to punch stupid people in the throat, and there are naked women and free beer. Good beer.

Good Morning all,

Starting the day with oatmeal, Got to get things straight around the house for tomorrow. A friend is flying in from Portland to visit for a week. It will be good to see him, its been way to long. We are thinking about all the BOTL that is going through a tough time. It seems things have been hitting hard for allot of good folks the past few weeks. It is kind of odd to me but when you live long enough you start the see the trend. These things seem to come in burst all at once for everyone. I cant make up my mind if it is something that is due to celestial orbit like the seasons or what. Troubles seem to come in threes, not all the time but a great deal of the time. I am just waiting on this all to pass.

From what it sounds like... you did the right thing.

I can totally relate to the "empty and quiet." My house misses the "Click, clack" sound of puppy dog nails on the tile and hardwood floors.

We had Madison cremated. I made up some shadow boxes for me and the kids. A picture of him, a molded paw print the the vet made for us, his collar, and a vial of his ashes. He may be gone but never forgotten.

Thanks Bucky........I think it was the right thing too, but being the right thing doesn't make it any easier. Yeah the quiet is overpowering.....no click clack of the nails or jangling of the collar and tags......and the empty chair......
We are having Stinky/Stain cremated also.......I do a lot of work with wood and metal and I'm gonna make up something special to hold her ashes as a memorial.........

I feel really bad for my wife.......her and Stinka were best friends, and tonight when I go to work my wife will be here all alone for the first time in 12 years.........Sad

We've got the ashes of three greyhounds in our house.

I get it.

Nope not kidding, I have traveled most of my career all across the US to all 4 corners of it and everywhere in between. Seattle is not no where near my taste. Then again neither is Portland Oregon. Now Colorado in the Rocky Mountain area I could handle very well.ThumpUp

It's an old computer then... I had an alarm clock that did that. I think it was extended a couple weeks in 2007, right? So if your operating system is older than that it's still using the old DST.
