I'm hoping all the actions being taken like social distancing etc. flatten this thing out a bit. That would be a win-win. Some can claim we panicked for nothing, others can say the actions did good.... and we could continue to argue just like we do about everything else.

We have no clue at this point how many are effected based on lack of testing. I blame the greasy WOPs

TW, is it possible COVID 19 has been here longer than we presently think it has been. I know about 60 people that were hit with something that presented in a manner consistent with COVID 19. I was one of them. It was nasty. I think about 10 of that grouping were tested for the flu and all had negative results. Since there was no connection to China at the time I do not know who sickie 0 was, and if there was a China connection. Oh, the time frame was November of last year when we started becoming sick and it spread rapidly.

Very possible. We don't know. We haven't been testing. That's the rub. We really dropped the ball on this and still have issues with testing. An after action RCA on this will be damning.

I very well may have had it a few weeks ago when I was in Baltimore. Who knows. If I did unfortunately I likely unknowingly gave it to many folks young and old. I get around :)

I've heard some say it may have been here in December..... November may not be a reach. Who knows. We may never know. EDIT - Just took a look at a couple timelines. November seems unlikely but anything is possible.

Looks like the #1 ranked KU Jayhawks will not be winning the tourney this year. They were the odds on favorite.

If it hit 3+ months ago look at it this way. Most people probably have already recieved it so there's nothing to worry about.

Just gonna say this once, cause I care about a few of you azzhats.

You better start paying attention to what’s going on.
The situation is considerably worse than most of you think.
I’m not trying to get all Jonsey here, but I do have some knowledge and sources of info.
It’s not just the virus that’s going to cause problems because it will kill a certain percentage of people.
It’s the ancillary damage it will cause to the global economy, which has already started.

Start preparing.

For the most part, the response here, and some other places where I essentially said the same thing, was...
- nothing burger
- flu is worse
- media driven
- nothing I need to worry about
and so on.

Here we are, about where I'd thought we'd be.
It's going to get "interesting" in another 30 days.
But not to worry.........China has already rid itself of the virus and has no new cases!
Everything will be back to normal in a few short weeks, cause well heck, if China got rid of the virus, then we certainly can as well.

Carry on...

So I just read an article breaking down the virus cases, state by state, and the number of deaths.

If my math is correct it is 1100 cases for the entire country so far... and 30 deaths so far (most in Washington State).

Even world-wide the numbers are 120,000 and 4300 deaths (rounded).

Doctors say that 80% of people will have very mild symptoms. What in the actual **** is the panic about?

Panic begins when hacks like Brain Williams do math in the media and fools fall for their careless partisan calculations

dayum, so now I check off three of the at risk boxes: older, diabetic and obese...

possibly a fourth box: smoking... but I think/hope that refers to inhaled cigarette smoke and not cigars...

is it time to panic?

I've heard that the reason COVID-19 should be a greater cause of concern than the typical flu is that this virus attacks the lungs, which makes it more lethal, potentially...

Shaking my head. Hopefully the actions taken can flatten the curve and the unknowing will think it was never anything. That’s the best possible result.

Many people that aren’t on the death lists can enjoy some quality ventilator time assuming all this works and ventilators are available.

This is not just like the flu and we are beyond that rhetoric. Even trump knows it.

And no don’t panic. But do listen to the epidemiologists. They’ve got this one right.

And no it’s not the press or Hillary. All the companies and entities taking unprecedented actions are not doing so lightly.

The naysayers hopefully can than those taking action even though they will never admit it.

The problem with the story of the boy who cried wolf was not that the boy cried wolf...

It wasn't that the boy cried wolf when there was none...

And it wasn't that people didn't believe the boy when he cried wolf...

The problem was that the wolf eventually showed up...

And now here we are with a wolf and whether or not people believe it really has nothing to do with anything...

Now personally, I'm lobbying for the global release of wolf-hungry baboons... Yes, the baboons will eventually turn on humans, But I've got an idea for that too...

Opel the cry wolf part is true. It gives folks false confidence. The m that way with tornado warnings. I go outside. Even though I’ve been through one that destroyed out town. I was too young to remember. My folks and grand folks never forgot.

The amount of disinformation and stupid assumptions on this pandemic is wild. Some are the presidents rhetoric from a week ago. He’s move on but it took hold with some.

Actually it already is a sentinel event. When in your life have you ever seen the ncaa tourney, and pro sports wiped out for awhile. And that’s the tip of the iceberg. Either it’s mass hysteria or panic, or those folks were given information that drove their decision. Those are not willie Millie decisions.

It is time to pay attention and do our best with hand washing, hand sanitizing, sanitizing surfaces, and public distancing. It is not time to panic and be sensationalized into being stupid. I'm not sure if my router will work from my COVID19 shelter so good luck!

From what I understand, that's all well and good... but the public distancing is best. Supposedly it is airborne... someone who has it breathes out, then you breathe that in... you got it. (which I was contemplating in the gym this morning, where everyone is breathing heavy)

Yeah, you can still get it touching stuff, but it seems the majority of people are getting it through the air.

The opinion on that is changing Shawn. Originally it was thought that the aerosol from a sneeze or cough would infect someone. Now it is thought it is more likely it takes a droplet. The truth is no one knows. These are just best guesses. Glad you are out of the correctional system. I suspect this could run rampant there.

Washing hands and surface disinfection is critical. I don’t know where any legitimate information minimizing this is coming from. It’s why you should try not to touch your face. Public distancing is important as well. Spey you hit it pretty spot on

Careful where you get your info.

Saw some interesting data from China and Europe concerning the folks that don’t die. I want to wait until it’s validated but the path back for a large percentage that don’t die is brutal, for an even larger percentage underneath that it includes pneumonia and lung scarring. The bucket that are lucky and it’s just flu like is smaller than you think. This isn’t the flu. That rhetoric is dead.

Dude, do you bother trying to comprehend what you read or do you just see it came from me and decide to correct me? I never said washing your hands and surfaces was unimportant. Just stated that, from what I am hearing, it's mostly coming from airborne particles.

That doesn't mean don't disinfect sh*t. RollEyes
