Was planning to smoke some spareribs yesterday in the electric smoker, but the damn thing kept tripping the GFCI regardless of the location I plugged it into. Tried an outdoors GFCI outlet, one in the garage and one in the kitchen. Then tried an outlet at the SIL's house next door. Same thing, it would trip the circuit breaker and shut off.

Anybody have any ideas on a possible fix? I'd hate to replace it as it cost $1500, and I've only had it for 4 years and have used it 20-24 times. It'sdone this before, but I've usually been able to plug in somewhere and it'd work...

Slow baked the ribs in the oven, and they turned out great...just missed the smoky flavor...

It could just draw too much electricity for the circuit especially if it is an older home. The breaker trips because it is pulling too much power down the line and it will melt the wires and burn down the house. The fix is to have an electrician re-wire the whole circuit with a larger fuse and wire. Your largest circuit is prolly to the washer/dryer. You could try that.

More likely is the smoker has damage to its electric cord or internals. It is shorting out and drawing too much power. I had one do this and dang near melted a few parts. Since it is pricy it may be worth maintenance and an electrical repair.

It's karma for using an electric smoker, Al. You need a WSM and some charcoal and wood. Beer

I love my Masterbuilt electric smoker but it was like under $300 so if it shorted I would just put it on the curb and let Mr Jones scrap it. The one I had before it I had for 20 years before it almost melted itself.

I used to use charcoal, wood chips and a Weber, but I got old and lazy...too much fuss to add charcoal and chips, check the temp, adjust the flues for air flow...smoking/barbecuing was a time intensive activity...

With the electric, set it and forget it until the meat is done...no muss...no fuss...and with the same results as with charcoal, except no variation...can watch a ballgame, have a cigar, pound a couple of beverages without having to check on the smoker...can even smoke something like a huge brisket or several pork butts overnight and get some sleep while the smoker carries on...

I did some checking about 12 years ago when I switched to electricity, after almost committing to have a brick barbecue oven built in the backyard of our old house during the renovation. That method required a lot of wood and time and effort.
Did I mention...I'm lazy?

The Cook Shack electric smokers were the highest rated, so I got one. It took up 90% less foot print and was positioned as a built-in next to the grill in the outdoor kitchen. Using only 6oz of wood chunks or less for each barbecue, I didn't need to spend a lot of money or reserve storage space for wood.

Dammit! Got a flat tire on the e-bike.

Wouldn't be a big deal if it was front tire but it's a rear flat. Derailleur and motor connections add more complexity to a simple fix. Gonna have to break out the tools beyond a simple wrench.

Hopefully some woman in a Subaru came by and helped you change the tire.

The WSM has an electric draft control system. Many of them, in fact... I chose the BBQ Guru DigiQ DX.

Set it and forget it.

However, I just sold my setup... so when I get to where I'm going, I will need another.

My weather app is broken. It should have said Today's temperature is PAIN.

I got FRIED.

All I did was sit outside with a La Aroma de Cuba El Jeffe(was really good), 4 beers and some Steely Dan. Now I hurt... a lot. If my cat tries to sleep on me tonight it won't be pretty.

Lucky you are a master tinkerer. Learned last week at the local bike shpo, they only service electric bikes they sell. Peeps have been buying cheapos from Amazon, they don’t start, something is missing, or it malfunctions and now they are stuck.

It is a little mafiaish, but I understand.

Wonder how long until e bikes get to a significantly lower price point (if ever).

Was thinking about inventing an electric coat remover. Working title was The E-Jack-U-Later.

Perhaps the idea and I were both premature.

It's all good but there's some stupid through hole with a capture nut thingy on the back side to secure the derailleur. I've lost and found the franking screw and nut a half a dozen times while trying to line it up and "capture" it. The franking thing bounces somewhere on the carpet that defies all laws of physics.

If it was a steel frame, they could have threaded the hole it but is Al so that option is a no go. What I need is skinny fingers to get in there to hold the nut in place while I screw it in.

"Wanted: skinny fingers that can hold my nut while I screw in my bolt."

I'll post it on Craig's List and see if there are any takers.

Mine has been working flawlessly other than the flat tire. I use it to buzz around town for simple errands or just to get out for a ride. Use it to go to work and back (not sure you can call "working" at Wally world as actually work other than working off the urge to to not dope people). It's 8 minutes door to door at 19.8 mph

The bike, it cost me about $500 on Amazon when I bought it but the same one is running about $700 now.

Bought one for my son last Christmas. He bikes a lot just tooling around town. Only issue with that one was the controller (LCD screen) was broken when it arrived. It was kind of a hassle to replace as the cables from the controller and the battery run (internally) through the down tube of the frame. Had to splice the cable and snake it though down tube. A bit of a headache but not that big of a deal. The third party I bought them from (via Amazon) sent me new replacement controller and credited me $50 for the inconvenience.

He's gonna get his driver's license this coming fall so unsure how much he'll be using the E-bike. We have a deal if he wants his own car: 25% me, 25% mom, 25% him, 25% grandparents with a stipulation that he also has to chip in on insurance and pay his own gas.

Welcome back to Monday fellas.

One more night at work then up to Michigan for Gridlife festival. Not bringing a camper so hopefully won't have the truck break down on me again like it has the last 3 times... Gonna be living out of a tent for a week. Weather forecast is favorable 80 days 60 nights.

Checked the fetzer valve (thanks for the heads-up). It's operating within normal specifications.

I did have to do some slight adjustments to the tie rod guards and tweak the ball bearings. The bike is back together and running fine.

Beautiful Memorial Day here in North central MA. 85° and sunny, 35% humidity, slight breeze. There is a smell in the air though... it's people grilling out. (How can you not like the smell seared animal flesh cooking on a grill?)

I could take this weather year round.

Yessir... beautiful day in SoCal, too. 75 degrees, sunny with a slight breeze.

Took Tank to the doggie park for an hour and he was very well behaved. Played very well and when a couple of dogs tried to mount him he was tolerant for a moment or so before he gave them their warning that he don't go for those shenanigans.

Finally a lowkey day.

Dog, bike, steak, drink, cigar, walk, nap, and now a bit of tv.

Remembering none of those freedoms all come from sacrifices made for the country.

Later gators.

Second cup in hand. Walked out at 4:15 and noticed the sky is already slightly light. This is why we don't need any day light savings time in Az.

No highlights. One lowlight- running out of gas in someone's vehicle in the shadow of Lambeau Field. The cops were cool. Upside was it died only 2+ blocks from the shpo.

$3,200 worth of repairs on a 72 Vette. They didn't have it done in time for me to test drive.

Leaving tomorrow for Michigan for gridlife festival. First time without a camper, we started gridlife in 2013. But my truck is a POS and I don't want another huge tow and repair bill from towing half rated capacity over 120 miles. So I'm doing the homeless simulation and tenting it for a week.

Was at Walmart for a new air mattress- my old one was more patches than original and still wouldn't hold air. Saw the best tent idea. It's a tent that attaches to an ez up canopy. The one I bought wraps around 2 sides of my canopy and has a screen enclosure for the non tent sides.

I'm actually excited to live in a tent for a bit. Weather forecast is 70s during the day 50s at night and no rain, so that's perfect. But being on the lakeshore, weather changes fast. We'll see. I'm excited.
