#149~There are a lot of "cheap" cigars that are sold here, or are even listed in this thread, that are fine sticks. Many of the 'premium' cigars that are sold here are not much better than the cheapos. It just depends on each individual's taste.

Granted, most premiums are worth the money, but there are plenty of sleepers that are tremendous smokes!

Are you thinking of Opus?

Onyx is relatively inexpensive.

Good thread. I'm a noob who's been lurking for a few months.
Agree about Ghurka doble, 5 Vegas series A, IT super Fuerte (Thanks to CBID, xmas for brother-in-law=xmas for me!).
Tried an Alcazar about 6 months ago, mostly just because it looked a lot like Edge. To my (admittedly inexperienced) palatte, tasted quite a bit like it too. Less complex, but $2.65 single in the store - WTF.
$40ish/bundle, wish Cbid would get 'em so I could stock up at even less!

Any one else tried these?

Not familiar with those, myself.

Have you gone to any of the noob threads to introduce yourself?

If you imply what I think, quite the opposite.
I get the tone (jest, I think) and don't mind being given a raz. If you speak of a mail bomb, it wouldn't be right - can't recip., and it would take me a year to smoke 'em anyways. If I'd found this forum 10 years ago, though, I'd have gone out and found a couple bundles of dogdarts to trade and signed up on the noob trade thread under 3-4 different names! I've come to believe that I just can't fly that way anymore. When the time comes, I will not be subtle about seeking transactions.

But back on thread - Alcazar? Alcazar? anyone? bueller?

Not found a better "true" cheapo. Auction prices here are low enough that I don't think I'll be looking much any more, though.

I know, they're so good I just had to say it again...

Here's another cheapo tested. Santa Rosa... Nothing spectacular but very pleasant. Mild-medium. Well worth the buck-a-stick I paid for them.

^ I picked up a fiver of those a while back for a buck a stick. Maduro, HA. Oscuro is more like it - which is the sole reason I bid on it. I might just have to go try one. Thanks for the reminder FGM.

fishinguitarman I picked up a couple 5-packs of those Santa Rosa tubo's (mainly to give to my uncle who lives in Santa Rosa, CA) and tried one....man it was one of the mildest cigars I've had. Not bad, but super, super mild.

Yeah~Either an early in the day stick, or one to give to a buddy who doesn't smoke much and can't handle the stout ones.

Perdomo's Cuban Parejo Maduro (any of them) taste a lot like the Perdomo Maduro Reserve Redbox and usually go for under $10 a fiver on CBid.

I also said they aren't "too bad", and not "buy now!"

I'm saying this so that I don't look like an absolute idiot for saying "Agreed."

The first box of Mayorgas I bought were really moist, and I had to let them dry out for a while. So, keep that in mind if the first one burns badly. I had the same problem with the Gurkha Extra Fuerte that havanaone gifted me.

The wrapper is REALLY oily and moist.

jpotts, you buy those Mayorgas from Lew?

All the cigars I've bought from from "him" are so over humidified for shipping purposes I have to drybox it for about 5-7 days before doing anything at all with them.

Actually, I bought them at "They WHo Shall Not Be Named" store in Michigan. They / he has an outlet here. Normally I would have done an internet purchase, but it was something I had to expense right at the moment. Long story.

And yeah, big-time wet. Don't know why. I'm thinking they must have just gotten a shipment in.

Okay, so this is my favorite topic... Black and cheap!

I am agreeing with many of the choices here...
El Mejor
Onyx
Partagas black can be inexpensive
Series A 5 Vegas
Those are all excellent choices.

I gotta agree with Nestor as well. It is a good smoke, but mine have consistently not burned evenly.
