I LOVE Consuegra madies, Slim hates um!

Lot's of people LOVE Bucs, Beatdragon hates um!

Does anyone have a smoke that they hold near and dear and they can't understand why someone or many others have disparaged them?

Slim, I don't think you've ever tried the "good" Conies. They're seconds, so you may have gotten a rocket, but the ones I've had in maduro have been EXCELENT!! and very reasonable...

Also, a few folks bash the Perdomo's (perdontmos)... WHAT THE!!?? These are GREAT!! the la-tradicions? the P2s?

Acids. I'm all for em, but some people cant stand them.

Unfortunately, not enough people hate them to drive down some of the bids.

Odd ... the two thoughts I'd had in seeing only the title of this thread are the very cigars that Robby names ... Perdomo gets a horrible rap, but makes one of the best cigars on the market ... there are countless reports of burn and/or draw problems associated with the brand and as I've mentioned elsewherre before, I just plain don't experience that ... it's the humitity ... 70 is too high for Nicaraguan tobacco ... drop that box to 65 and voila !!

Connies are bashed almost as heavily as Lone Wolfs ... and SOME of the Connies deserve the rap, IMO ... but SOME are excellent smokes ... sure, they aren't a true premium smoke, but they're well worth the money ... they're mixed fill seconds from Villazon, the makers of Punch, Hoya de Monterrey, etc ... my favorite Connies are the # 14 maddies, also known at one prominent source as 143s (the #3 being their sufix denoting maduro in everything they carry) ... I put a couple of bundles per year, one each 6 months, and let 'em age about a year ... the plume builds up to the point the cigar almost looks like a powdered donut ... and tastes even better ... one of those on a Sunday afternoon is almost a tradition with me, particularly in baseball season when I smoke one at my sons baseball game ...

I thought they were "Bad Wolfs".. (;

I agree with the Connies, the No. 9's that I've had were excellent. A lot of people bash the 5 Vegas as well, but if I'm in the mood for a light 'dessert' cigar, thats what I'll reach for.

I have a fondness for the Fidalgo Negro's. Sure my lips and fingers get a little bit of color added to them, but I do not think they are all that bad for a change every once in a while.

Had a connie 733 (ERDM Robusto Larga) with about 10 months of age this morning. Not quite as good as the real thing, but still a damn good smoke!

SteveS: Consuegras are not mixed fill. I've dissected my share that didn't draw, and every one was long fill. I just picked up a bundle of 84M, ERDM FdL seconds, and the only thing that distinguishes them from firsts is wrapper color. They look slightly darker than EMS, a bit lighter than Villazon's maduro.

The cigars I love that others hate: No longer made and imposible to find. I think I have a couple of boxes left. Premium Dominicana. There have been many cigars with similar names, do not be confused by Premium Dominican, et.al. These are "Premium Dominicana." They were made by the Fuentes for Robert Levin as a second label, after the success of Ashton. (Long before Le Aromas de Cuba) It was reported that Carlos Fuente Jr. did the blending himself on this cigar. While the cigar had Dominican fillers, the wrapper was from Equador and was doubley fermented to a rosado color. It was a cigar made clearly before its time, and laid a huge egg for Levin and Fuente. I love 'em and will miss them when they are gone, though I have the feeling that they'll be other cigars I like just as well.

"The Cigar" by Perdomo. I've seen them bashed here a bunch. After 6 months or so in the humi I like them a lot.

SteveR is,as usual, right on the Connie fill.Despite the Connie Crap-Shoot of not always getting the same cigar every time, they are well worth smoking.I'm sure some are over-runs,as I've often seen Punch,ERDM,Hoyos,in worse physical appearance than some Connie bundles. When you get lucky with Connie, she may be hanging out with her friend,Punch Grand Cru.

Cigars I hate that others love? Bolivar Fuertes and Flor de Allones.

Hoja yellow band maduro, in any size except robusto. Really tastey if you ask me. The robustos that I've had were absolutely vile. Cbid used to have a lot of these, but not so much lately. I'm glad I stocked up. And yes they are mixed (or short) fill, so more times than not the ash ends up in my lap.

Cigars I hate that everyone else loves? Has to be anything made by Fuente. And I mean anything, from the green bands up to the Opus, and the off-brands too (Bauza, Montesino, Cuesta-Rey, Ashton, etc). I just don't get it.

Ken - I love the Bolivar Fuertes, and they command a decent price for the delmonicos...

The cigars that I hate that everyone loves are anything that says Arturo Fuente on the band. I have not had any 8-5-8 sungrowns or maduro Hemingways, but every other Fuente stick that I have tried has been crap. I have had only one Opus, and that was great. Plus, the VSG Sorceror is one of my all time favorite smokes. But everything else from the 8-5-8 natural to the Hemingway line to the Cuban Belicoso sungrown has bit the big one.

For a cigar that I like that everyone else hates: Fighting ****. Age them for a while, and they don't suck so bad. Plus I get them here for 20 to 50 cents a stick.

Calavera: Godfather and me swear by the 8-5-8 Sungrown, which are really spicy and full-bodied, more so than most Fuentes...but if you don't like Fuente's other stuff, you might not like these either.

Cigars I hate that others love...I haven't had many good experiences with the Torano Exodus 1959, which others seem to enjoy. Each time I've had one its been bitter and had a bad burn...but then again, seems each time I try one, its outdoors on a windy day, so maybe that's it.

Cigars I love that others hate...actually, I have a soft spot for Black & Mild machine-mades. Really, I don't know if you can consider it a cigar, since it's made with pipe tobacco, but for some reason I like these little things for their kinda sweet, nutty taste every once in a while. Hav-A-Tampa Jewels are also another low-grade machine-made I like.

As far as handmades, I've really liked most of Perdomo's stuff, from the Perdomo2 to the La Tradicion (which is awesome, I think), which seems to get bashed, and I'm a Fuente fanatic.

I could name every stick in my Humidors and some one somewhere doesn't like them. I never pay much mind to what others think. And yes, if I dig down deep enough in the coolador there is probably a few Lone Wolf.

Lets see
Controversial cigars(?)I Like :I do not know how many dislike the La Rosa Especials but that along with the Perdomo squared(both Maduro and Cameroon)are quality smokes that I do smoke from time to time.On the lighter side I have also enjoyed Torano's St Charles and the De Florez line(both a bit mild but tasty)etc....

Hung Jury ? The Torano Exodus 1959(Maduro) is an outstanding looking cigar well constructed etc.. . However I have had a few that were a bit earthy and less than satisfying. I believe Toranos other lines(Signature,Exodus (Silver) etc) hold better promise.

Dislike?I suppose this comes with the years but many of the classic mild cigars I have found less satisfying include,Griffins ,Playboys, some of the Macanudos etc. But this is not becuase they are bad persay(though the Playboys are not that good for a mild cigar of a high price) but because I feel I am breathing and tasting air most of the time when smoking these and like minded brands.I suppose with age comes wisdom (Or perhaps my Taste buds have been so toasted to where a Medium or strong ciagr is favored).

ikonoklast7 noted the Torano Exodus 1959 as a cigar that was bitter and didn't burn well. It was also my experience with the first one I smoked when the good people at Torano sent me a couple of samples. It was desperately in need of drying and stabilization. I let two others sit out, in cello, unhumidified for three weeks, then took the cello off one, and placed it in a cedar dry box overnight. The next day, it was an extraordinary cigar. When I purchased a box, I removed the outer cello and let the box sit out for a month before putting it in a cooler, then waited several months before smoking them. I think they are one of the best cigars on the market, but when wet, they can certainly be bitter. Of course, that's true of many cigars.

While I have been developing a taste for the dark side, I still like Remedios maduros, especially the Clemenceau. Perdomo cigars (except for the PEGCC) just don't do it for me.

I really like the taino cameroon wrapped torpedos.
They draw well and have med. to full flavor. I was hoping Cbid would try to otain some for auctions.
I've been sampling different brands on CBID for almost a year the Talango Valley cameroon wrapped in also good.

Every time I've answered this kind of question the price has gone up so I'm not telling.
