Welcome phish41,
I've been posting on the forums for a few weeks now, so I'm new too.
Since you're new to cigars, you might want to stick towards mild stuff. But if you can handle an H. Upmann, which is a medium to full bodied cigar (and also one of my favorites), without getting the shakes, then you can enjoy just about anything.
Just like a new wine lover might start off with white wine and move up to heavier red wines, a new cigar smoker should try milder ones and gradually work up to fuller ones. But if you can already handle the full stuff, then try anything.
Here are some of my favs that I've tried, but take in mind, everyone has different tastes. If these help, I'll be glad...
Mild, Medium Stuff (in order from mildest to mediumest, if that makes any sense)
============
Baccarat (the beginner's cigar, very mild and sweet)
Macanudo (though some people hate them, I like them)
Dunhill (very mild, but expensive)
Nat Sherman (I think they vary, but the one I had was very mild and sweet)
Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur (not regular Hoyo or Excalibur 1066)
Montecristo (regular, Serie V, and cabinet are all very creamy and smooth)
Romeo y Julieta (the Vintage is reeeeeal good)
Ashton (only downside...EXPENSIVE)
Fuller Smokes (in no order)
=============
A. Fuente (just about anything made by them, one of my favorites is the 8-5-8 Sun-Grown, everyone talks about OpusX, but I have yet to try them)
Davidoff (this includes Avo, Zino, and a few others)
La Gloria Cubana (their Serie R Maduro is my favorite)
Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur 1066 (very full)
H. Upmann (of course)
Partagas (the regular and Black Label are both great)
Indian Tabac (esp. the Limited Anniversary Reserve and the Cameroon Legend series)
Red Dot Cohiba (pricey, but good)
Puros Indios (I especially love the Maxima Reserva)
Torano (very consistent, includes the Signature, Exodus '59, Exodus Silver, and Regular. Always good)
CAO Brazilia (very flavorful and full)
Oliva (Including the "O," Grande, and others. Always a great smoke)
La Tradicion (some hate these Perdomo-made cigars, but I think they're awesome)
Smokes I Don't Like (just my thoughts, but you may like them)
=============
Helix (very bland)
Bad Frog (neeeeeeeeeeeever buy them)
Lone Wolf
Island Collection (anything with "Island" in the name is usually terrible)
CAO Gold (I think they're a bit on the bland side)
I hope you this might've helped. But like I said, everyone has different tastes, so you just have to find out what you like. Don't be afraid to try new brands.
