Hey All,

I am new here to CBid, and fairly new to cigars in general. I was just wondering if any of you guys had some suggestions for some good cigars to try, and the ones to stay away from. I don't have very many in my humidor right now. The ones that are in there are H. Upmann's. They were part of a gift, along with the humidor. Also, are any of the other online companies worth looking at. I didn't want to purchase anything from them without knowing more about them. I have made a few purchases on CBid and been very pleased. But, I don't know much about a lot of the brands that show up on CBid. Any information you guys could share would be great.

Thanks
Mike

Welcome, but you may want to refrain from posting names of competitors...

Yeah My Mistake,

Thanks Robby. I didn't intentionally post the names of the competitors. (Newbie Mistake). But as I said CBid is the only one that I have ordered from. The others have had no business of mine.

there's such a wide assortment to choose from, it's difficult to recommend. My recommendation would be to take a peek at the Samples board. There's a few multipacks with an assortment of manufacturers. Also, there's the 5 packs. many many good choices. If you find some you don't much care for, there's the trades board and I guarentee someone will like them.

Welcome phish41,

I've been posting on the forums for a few weeks now, so I'm new too.

Since you're new to cigars, you might want to stick towards mild stuff. But if you can handle an H. Upmann, which is a medium to full bodied cigar (and also one of my favorites), without getting the shakes, then you can enjoy just about anything.

Just like a new wine lover might start off with white wine and move up to heavier red wines, a new cigar smoker should try milder ones and gradually work up to fuller ones. But if you can already handle the full stuff, then try anything.

Here are some of my favs that I've tried, but take in mind, everyone has different tastes. If these help, I'll be glad...

Mild, Medium Stuff (in order from mildest to mediumest, if that makes any sense)
============

Baccarat (the beginner's cigar, very mild and sweet)
Macanudo (though some people hate them, I like them)
Dunhill (very mild, but expensive)
Nat Sherman (I think they vary, but the one I had was very mild and sweet)
Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur (not regular Hoyo or Excalibur 1066)
Montecristo (regular, Serie V, and cabinet are all very creamy and smooth)
Romeo y Julieta (the Vintage is reeeeeal good)
Ashton (only downside...EXPENSIVE)

Fuller Smokes (in no order)
=============
A. Fuente (just about anything made by them, one of my favorites is the 8-5-8 Sun-Grown, everyone talks about OpusX, but I have yet to try them)
Davidoff (this includes Avo, Zino, and a few others)
La Gloria Cubana (their Serie R Maduro is my favorite)
Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur 1066 (very full)
H. Upmann (of course)
Partagas (the regular and Black Label are both great)
Indian Tabac (esp. the Limited Anniversary Reserve and the Cameroon Legend series)
Red Dot Cohiba (pricey, but good)
Puros Indios (I especially love the Maxima Reserva)
Torano (very consistent, includes the Signature, Exodus '59, Exodus Silver, and Regular. Always good)
CAO Brazilia (very flavorful and full)
Oliva (Including the "O," Grande, and others. Always a great smoke)
La Tradicion (some hate these Perdomo-made cigars, but I think they're awesome)

Smokes I Don't Like (just my thoughts, but you may like them)
=============
Helix (very bland)
Bad Frog (neeeeeeeeeeeever buy them)
Lone Wolf
Island Collection (anything with "Island" in the name is usually terrible)
CAO Gold (I think they're a bit on the bland side)

I hope you this might've helped. But like I said, everyone has different tastes, so you just have to find out what you like. Don't be afraid to try new brands.

Ikon, what no Padron's? You better RUN, not walk to your local store and get your hands on a 3000,5000,PAM/PAN...NOW!

Don't make another list unless Bucanero and Padron are on it!

DrMaddVibe,

Godfather just found a store across the Ohio River from me (in Louisville, KY) that sells all kinds of Padrons and Fuente Hemis.

No word so far about Bucaneros...but I'm hoping!

Welcome to the asylem phishn41,

1. Keep CI's page open for price comparison
2. Be patient, bid low and let some go by.
3. Buy 5-packs and try everything.
4. Contact cust. serv. before posting negative comments here, they WILL take care of you.
5. If you build it (coolador), they will come and fill it.

Enjoy the ride.

Let me add my welcome message. Also, I never pass up a Montessino or a Punch brand. They are good tasty medium smokes. If you like fuller bodied smokes, pick up a 5 pack of Excalibur 1066 Dark Knights...mmmmmm mmmmm goooooooooood! I like them ALMOST as much as an Ashton aged Maduro and they are a lot easier on the wallet.

Welcome.
