The other day I had my very first Punch (I never hear much about these old classics, and never got around to this one until now). It was petite corona, could have been a London Club, but I'm eighty percent sure it was an Elite. It was amazing! For such a small, cheap cigar, it packed a decent punch (sic), and had incredible flavor. It tasted EXACTLY like a fried steak with a cracked pepper rub. I hardly wanted to brush my teeth that night, because I kept tasting it. So tonight I figured I'd get big brother, I think it was a double corona (Punch has too many dang sizes). As great as the first one was, that's how much of a let down this one was. Bitter, no flavor, and absolutely flat (very reminiscent of those awful Thomas Hinds). If it didn't say sungrown on the box, I wouldn't have believed it. I know age and size can make a big difference, but these were not even from the same planet. Both are the Ecuadorian sungrown, from their standard (chateau?) line. Is there that much difference in the blend between sizes? Did I just get lucky with the first, or unlucky with the second? The shop I got the petite from is pretty far, so I figured I'd see what you guys thought before making the trek back to stock up.

I would say you were unlucky with the second. Punch President and Punch after dinner are two of my every day go to smokes. Love them and have never had a bad one.

If the was a London Club, then you smoked my favorite everyday smoke. Got 3 boxes in the Tupperdor ( 2 mad. 1 ems) I have tried a few other sizes but always come back to the London Club. I just seem to like the blend better in this size. Weird because I usually like Robusto size. ANyway you can't beet the price for the London club.

Get a few more and try them out.

Redsquid,

My first experience with Punch wasn't good. Godfather and I (if you haven't noticed, I very rarely will have a smoke that Godfather isn't around for) split a Punch Rothschild 3-pack sampler.

He had the Rare Corojo and EMS, and I had the Maduro. I thought Maduro was okay, but burned badly. Godfather's were terrible all around.

Godfather has never had a Punch since. But I decided it deserved a second chance and got some Punch Oscuros from CBid...and you're right, it tasted like a pepper-rubbed steak, lol. I love 'em now, and I'm still trying to convince Godfather to try them again. The one you had was just a dud (like my first)...but don't give up on them.

Just bought one of the Punch Grand Cru line last night at the new smoke shop I discovered. Can't wait to light it up!

I will never have a punch again. Do these cigars taste like tobacco or are you smoking a cows ass

I don't know what a cow's rear end taste like, but Punch Rothchild Maduro was one of my first favorites. They are nutty, spicey and have lots of creamy smoke. Now, sometimes they are a little harsh to smoke, but the after taste is so great that I want to go back and fire up another. They really do get better after a long nap, though. And perhaps that first cigar got your expectations too high. Stay with'em, redsquid.

Takes more than one or two cigars to ridicule the entire lot. They're handmade, so...there's gonna be problems. I usually don't post favorable or unfavorable experiences until I've had 3 or more. I try to stick with the same size, wrapper, etc. Sometimes a manufacturer will have a blend and muck it to high hell. Case in point...CAO Gol's = AWESOME, but CAO Lambada's = SUCK!

Never had a Punch cigar I didn't like, ISOM or otherwise. Some I've liked better than others, but I've like them all!

Sweet, thanks for the input. I had no confusion about the rare corojos (I likes 'em). I was just afraid of getting more klinkers in the standard line. As the larger sizes go for about 10$ around here, I figured a little quick reconnaissance was in order.
