Hey All:

Being relatively new to primo cigars, I have gone looking at some local shops and found a PAM 1925 (5 x 50 or 52) for $25. Is that a good price? They are the only shop around that carries them. Also found some Opus X Fuente Fuente for $19.

Should I jump on these? The prices seem high but I know these are extremly rare.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

$25.00 for a cigar? if you can afford it, go. jump on it, no. there are places you can jump on it for $25.00 that are more exciting.

i think you can try a lot of cigars here for a lot less each. i will look to see who posts any opinions on this thread.

Considering you're new to cigars, I would recommend using the money to buy more less expensive sticks. That way you can taste a wider variety of smokes for $25...rather than either enjoying or being disappointed with one $25 cigar.

Really ... what i.am.steve said ...

... smoking either a PAM 1926, or an Opus X, without the benefit of a well 'seasoned' palate, could have the possibility of ruining you for life on some really good cigars.

If you are not use to the stronger varitey of cigars, they can really 'kick your butt' ... and even make you turn green and get sick to your stomach.

MSRP on the OpusX Fuente Fuente is $10 or so, the 1926 PAM price seemskind of high as well, but I'm not sure.

PAM 1926 Robusto should be $13 - $15 per. The $25 is way over the top.
Totally agree with Slim's point -- suggest you buy 1 of each -- give them a LONG nap in your well kept humi -- start looking at the Cbid 5 pack samplers - learn much more of our Brotherhood and discover what you like and like a little less -- you will then have a point of reference against which to judge the PAMs and Fuente Top Line -- also add the Diamond Crown #7 Torpedo and the DC Max to your "in the future" cigars.

In the meantime - get the 3000, 4000 and 5000 regular Padron maddies - for the $5 - $6 each -- you can't go wrong.

And as my friend James A says, "Puff, Puff".

I guess with some of the California guys chiming in that the price is high it probably is. Where are you? They are both pretty rare cigars and retailers tend to exploit that. It is nice to have some special smokes for certain occasions though, so if you can afford it I'd grab one of each a put them away.

They might be overpriced...

But then again, just read the boards and you will easily see how many people would pay that much and probably more...not everyone can get there hands on them...

When my local guy got a box of 1926 PAM's #9...he sold them for $26...and sold out pretty quickly...he reminded us all that the last box he got before this was 3 years ago..

The Padron 2s, 3s, & 5s are a great idea.

You may also want to try the Montesino.

If you want to buy 'em it's your own
choice to decide.

I know when I first started I wanted to start
with a bang & smoke all the "Good Expensive" 'gars.
I look back now and wonder how many "Great Cheap"
'gars I could have had, along with gas money.

Start slow and ease into it. The others
will come in time when your pallette developes.

If you want to get a bit of a kick for your new
pallette bid on a box of Bucanero Peg Legs.

Puff Puff,

Thanks for the feedback. I am in Western, NY and the cigar shops are few and far between. I have recently started to smoke some premium cigars (CAO Brazilia GOL, IT Cameroon Legend Gorilla, Padron 2000 Maddie, Padron Delicias, Buc El Capitan Peg Leg, IT Super Fuerte Maddie) and have been looking for the PAM 26 and Opus X's.

I appreciate all the feedback and advice. This board has taught me a ton over the past few months.

Thanks

Sorry guys Rick got me started. This is what I posted on the other thread he started.

I agree that price is relevant. I rarely get the chance to buy the high end smokes since the kids get most of the money one way or the other... but now that I have a few I can't bring myself to smoke them.

Maybe what I paid was too much
PAM 1926 #2 $20 in stock
OPUS X #2 $14 - these are sold out.

I have frequently "overpaid" for hard-to-find cigars. I have 2 PAM 1926 in my humi that I paid over $20 each for. I may never smoke them, who knows, but they sure look pretty in my humi. I am not even a huge Padron fan. I have bought Anejos, FOXX Power Rangers, WOAM, 858 SGs, etc., when I stumbled on them, and I am a small collector compared to many on this board. Most cigar smokers never even see these cigars. I know some people who "overpaid" for the Hemi Classic SGs, bigtime. Try to get one away from them. 99% of cigar smokers will never even see someone else smoking one. Including me, dammit.

If you have some money handy when any of the rare ones are in stock, I say pop for a few. They won't be there the next time you go back, or the time after that. Put them away and come back to them when you and they are ready.

In over forty years of buying and smoking cigars, I can say with great pride that I never purchased a cigar I didn't intend on smoking.

You might check that dealer who had the Padron 1926 three years ago. I believe it was first released in mid-2002.

I thought about that as he said it...but i figured he was talking more figuratively on how hard they are to come around...

Amen Steve*R.
If it's in my humi, eventually it's gonna get smoked. The only exception to that is in the almost impossible opportunity I would get to obtain a super duper rare of the rare "cigars" out there...I would trade it in a heartbeat for a handful of other premiums...and to date, I've not cared to get one of those.

boscomm,
What Slim said way back there in the tread. I was/am new to smoking cigars and bought a couple of the primo cigars for $25/stick, but could not yet appreciate them. Give it some time. I starting to venture back out there after about 2 1/2 years.

Let's try this again.

Boscomm, if you want a 1926 #2 I'll get it and you can reimburse me.
