Hey Everybody,

I'm new to the cigar world...only about 4 months old. So far my favorite brand of cigars are CAO and I like Macanudos also. I keep trying different other brands but haven't found anything that I really like yet. If anybody has any suggestions on brands that are similar to CAOs or even that you think I would enjoy I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

La Gloria Cubana Series R, Partagas Black Label, Padron Maduro, Arturo Fuente Hemmingways, Bucaneero and Joy De Nics are in my rotation.

..um... I probably shouldn't be the first to answer this one.. you'll get much better advice very soon. But what little I know - either we need more info on what kinds of CAO's you like, or you just need to smoke more. The latter is the best answer. In my experience, the majority of CAO line is stonger, fuller and better than Mac's, but there is a wide variety, so you could be trying anything. In general, new smokers like milder smoother cigars. There are many suggestions for these - I would do a search... but to kick you off - I think the natural ashtons are good, La Flor Dominicana L300, 400, 2000, Carlos Torano Selecta Reserva, Bucanero Crew....

Bottom line is to try, try, try. Get on the trades board and do some swapping and branch out. The adventure is what it's all about!

Welcome aboard!

Welcome Elect-Romeo

LOL at Al'Thor...i am leaning toward the romantic politician.....

But you might want to listen to Al'Thor's advise...list which CAO's you like and people will start to chime in...CAO's line is too vast to know what to recommend...

Electromeo.. I would think that 4 months old is a little young to be smoking cigars. Hhhmmm, does that mean that anyone that replies with suggestions is contributing to the delinquency of a minor???...69

Take my advice, Electromeo

A lot of these guess have recommended very full-bodied cigars, such as the La Gloria Cubana Serie R or the Padron Maduro.

For right now, stay away from these, especially if you're new to tobacco in general. The full-bodied ones will give you the shakes and might even make you sick if you haven't really smoked before.

Macanudo is a good, mild cigar that I see you already like (though a lot of folks around here bash it). You said you like CAO, but which CAO line? The CAO Gold line is probably best for you right now, since its mild.

If you can find anything with a green-colored Candela or Double Claro wrapper, smoke them. I know Arturo Fuente makes some candelas, as does Astral and Don Tomas, but they're hard to find, so look around. Try to stick with cigars with Natural wrappers right now (light brown colored), when you build up your tolerance, go for the Maduro and Oscuro (which are dark brown or black), which are really taste but heavy.

Here's a good cigar regimen for you, assuming you smoke a cigar everyday or every other day. If you smoke less than that, then allow more time to get adjusted. Try these cigars first, then start trying more full-bodied blends, until you're able to handle the most full-bodied cigars out there.

First Months, Mild to Medium: Baccarat (most cigar novices love their sweet taste), Excalibur, Macanudo, Ashton regular line or Cabinet, Dunhill, Nat Sherman Host Selection (green label), Don Diego, Romeo y Julieta, Romeo y Julieta Vintage, Montecristo, CAO Gold, La Aurora, Fonseca, Astral, Don Tomas

After 2-3 Months, Medium to Full: Romeo y Julieta Reserve Maduro, Montecristo Serie V, Oliva, Arturo Fuente, Partagas, H. Upmann, Punch Grand Cru, La Gloria Cubana, OpusX, New York, Indian Tabac, Avo, Zino, CAO Maduro, Puros Indios, Perdomo, Nat Sherman, Carlos Torano, Fonseca, Hoyo de Monterrey, El Rey del Mundo, La Perla Habana, Onyx

After 4 Months, Full-Bodied: Punch, Punch Gran Puro, La Gloria Cubana Serie R, Padron Maduro, Gurkha, Padron Anniversary Maduro, Griffin's, Te-Amo, Red Dot Cohiba, Fuente 8-5-8 Sungrown, CAO Brazilia, CAO Criollo, Excalibur 1066, Sancho Panza

But don't just take my word for it, experiment! If you think you can tackle a full-bodied cigar early on, then go for it! Some people can handle full-bodied right away, you just have to see what works well for you.

For mild and "new" try The Crew from Bucanero.

At 4 months old you're allowed to play with fire? Cool!

Hey Thanks a bunch.
Electromeo I guess would be more of a techie name. Being a musician and songwriter...more of a play on words with romance being important to me.

When I first started smoking I tried the milder cigars but quickly moved on to more of the medium ones. I really like the CAO Criollo, Camaroon, and Brazilian. I tried the Maduro but didn't like it as much. I like the small flavored ones (moontrance, etc.) for quick breaks at work or after lunch.

I always grab some new ones along with my favorites though to try different things. Thanks again for your help I will take some notes and look for your recommendations.

Thanks.

Oh Yeah another thing to note. I live in Lexington, KY where the city council just pasted a smoking ban in all restarants and bars. Our local Cigar bar will probably go out of business now.

That sucks, Electromeo

I live in the Louisville area, and they're now considering a similar ban here!

Trades and bid on some 5 packs. It is the best way other then the trades route to see what you like and dislike. What you dislike may be what someone else is looking for. So welcome aboard and happy herfing
