Why don't you either post them here and now or just shut up and go away!

The ONLY reason I brought it up Johnny, was to show that once again you like to have it both ways. You cry foul when its "supposedly" hurled on you, but its ok for you to use racial slurs, and degrading terms for female anatomy and sexual persuasions. That was uncalled for, and ANY person with an ounce of decency in them KNOWS you don't use those words to sway opinion.

Just go away!

DMV,
I hope he just shuts up and goes away! bye John, no one will miss you!

" You might have to consider the idea that I am not an ass, in fact, and am a pretty normal, decent person."

yea right John, as usual, your opinion differs from the opinion of the majority of the users of this forum.

I also never said that teaching was a bad profession.
And what I ment was that those who find that they can't contribute any thing of value in the corporate world, often find themselves in front of a class teaching.
The subject that you chose to educate yourself in has no commercial application other than teaching. So you planned on teaching a ZERO value add subject, to more people that plan on teaching philosophy. Oh and let me guess...your working on a book.... for tenure? so that you can continue to leach off society in the name of doing something good... teaching. Teach something of value John, something in the math or sciences, or would that be too much work.

Now don't go away mad John.... just GO AWAY

Robert,

Why do you care how I make a living? Seriously. It seems neither relevant nor any of your business.

The First Law of Philosophy
For every philosopher, there exists an equal and opposite philosopher.

The Second Law of Philosophy
They're both wrong.

Unless you are talking about me and JD...then only JD is wrong.

JD

I e-mailed you, why no response? Is it because you really dont have any proof, but have a well thought out story? You've had enough time to make up a good one.

Let me see what you have! YOU put out the offer.

Also, I read that you are writing a book, your wife is ready to have a child, and you are taking a year off to write your book. How do you make a living? Are WE PAYING for you to take a year off by possibly receiving some sort of government grant or equivalent?

Tobasco,

I am writing you shortly. I was out tonight. I think your expectations for an immediate response is a little unreasonable.

Writing and research is part of my job. If you want a full account (for some reason) of my time off to write, email me again. But I think this was probably just an attempt at a cheap shot. Why the obsession with my profession?

If you are paying for this year off on your own, or by any other means than government assistance, than you are correct, it's not anyones business. If you are doing it through a gov grant, then it's ALL our business!

EVERYBODY! you people need to calm down. John is a liberal. Most of us are conservative (including me) but the bull rush on John is unacceptable. Accept the fact that his views are different from yours (and mine). That doesn't make him Satan. There are many who side with him, although I believe they are in the minority. And most definitely on this site. Let's accept the fact that we can agree to disagree. We have differing viewpoints and that is America, that is your community, that is the world. John isn’t my favorite person, but he is a person. He has opinions, he has intelligence, he has a right to speak his mind. What ever happened to “I don’t agree with your opinion but I’ll fight to the death for your right to express it?” Give John a break. Call off the dogs. Let’s get back to civil discourse…

Easy for you to say Robby. Not as easy to do in real life. Where were these words of wisdom whem Mag was being harrassed to the point of leaving these boards?

John has been unjustly accusing him of bigotry, unless of course he posts some proof like Maddvibe & SteveS have asked him to. I dont think he will though.

I voted Mag off. I think I made a mistake. He has posted many interesting things since I started posting, and way before that, when I was a lurker for a few months.

Sure Mag had a few disagreements here and there, but not like JD. EVERY thread this guy gets on goes negative!

CBid should have pulled his vulger responce, to the original post here too.

Tobasco, this is the misc board. The topics do get toward the political aspect on many occasions. The reason you say John's posts "go negative" is becase you have a conservative mind set (like me). Yes they are contrary to my beliefs, but if I were liberal, or a socialist, they would not be. Mine or yours would be... Yes the whole Mike John thing, blah blah blah... I've traded with both and like both and disagreed with both. Life is too damn short man.

It's silly to harbor animosity over perceived past injustices. At some point, one has to say "ok, what's next?" And move on. That's my point. Not pointed at any specific people, it just seems like there's a crucifixion going on here, and while there are some hard feelings, and some may be able to justify their hard feelings with A, B, C, etc... At some point, a new issue/point/debate/topic is raised and could be discussed on its merit. John doesn't carry the mark of Cain IMO. He's said some things that have offended some, but my gut tells me that most of the noise isn't over what he's said, but how he says it. And the MISC board should be open to opposing views (again IMO). I don't want to die on this hill, but I do think that people need to think just a little about diverse opinions.

I agree Robby.

But, why are responses like this one below necessary to make a point? I Quote:

"II. No one said we should all be free of offense. Again, please show me someone who says what is being criticized here. "Free from offense" is different than, say, teachers or bosses being free to say ****, ****, ****, bitch, ****, white trash, or whatever other stuff this author apparently wants to be able to say. Words do have consequences beyond just 'that makes me offended.' Again, SHOW ME SOMEONE WHO SAYS THIS."

This type of response is just asking for trouble. You may be right though. It may just be his style of writing. I really think a professor can do better than this though.

Do you think that this type of response would be used in one of his classes? I dont, but if it is, then this country has problems in schools worse than I suspected...

I agree!! I've had several debates with John! We're diametrically opposed on EVERY political issue. He makes his points, and I dispute them. I don't hate him. I simply disagree with him... I would actually like to meet him and have a cigar one day.

DMV and JD,
I'm sick of this discussion, of your personal grivance, on this forum. Start another thread, for your arguement, or better yet, take it to email. I don't agree with John, or you Mike, very often. But I don't flame you. I will say John started this thread, and it behooves us to stay on target, thread topic, or start your own thread. Because this arguement permeates every thread, that you guys BOTH, post to. If you Hate, a response, or the response to the original post, not just disagree, don't post to that thread. It shows lack of respect to the original post. In other words, your personal arguements are showing disrespect for Tonester, for whom I have great respect. If you aren't responding, on topic, to a thread, don't bother the rest of us. Take your personal war to email, or better yet, drop it.
Don't drag everythread down with your petty arguements. Though, your personal problems do not seem "Petty", to you, to me they are. Stay on topic, don't threadjack, and quit sounding like a bunch of schoolkids argueing.
Later

and I also Agree what Robbie and CWil have said...

John and I have had our differences and that is what this whole Country is all about... the right to voice your Opinions in a debate/and for others to agree or dis agree either way... and if it becomes to heated then the best thing to do is susseed (sp) the issue.. months ago John and I got pretty heated and even name calling to an extent... I appolgized through email and in turn John did also... how you like it.. he is intitled to his opinion as well as anyone else on here... I do feel the privious issue should be dropped or taken to private emails (seems to be needed) and sapre us forum viewers as Homebrew pointed out the disparity of reading it over and over again...
if you don't like a person or their views don't read it....pretty simple or by all means don't respond to the post...

Yours Truely!!!!

Cornbread

I don't know why I'm doing this, but my apologies to the board for contributing to the "schoolkid" atmosphere regarding jdrabinski. From my experience, the best way to deal with someone like him is to respond as a middle schooler would. But then again, I have less problem with sinking to that level than the critics of this discussion do. However, not because I feel I am wrong and not because I feel bad for jdrabinski...but because my standing on this board is more important to me than giving ole JD more hell, I shall refrain from hence forward.
