Not to threadjack too hard, but I keep hearing all this tripe about Bush being AWOL... First, the Democrats used Dan Quayles enlistment in the National Guard to avoid the draft to impugn his character, and the Republicans say it's still service! Second, Slick Willie signed up for the National Guard, and bailed out when he got picked up as a Rhodes Scholar, becoming bulletproof against the draft that way, the Republicans tout him as a draft dodger! Now this! I think both sides have shown that this is only considered important as an issue to beat the OTHER side over the head with and of no real value, or cost if your candidate happens to be on the wrong side of. So GET OVER IT! Those of us who put on the uniform every day are at least releived to be working for someone who doesn't practice what will get us busted, placed on restriction, and removed from the service (sexual fraternization with a subordinate), We are required to show respect for the president, but this one returns it! I saw him get back off of Marine One once to return the salute of the Marine sentry who saluted him as he boarded. No, he's not perfect. He has done some things that some liberals have decried, that Slick Willie did, his dad did, and Reagan did (illegal alien amnesty) and I think this country will survive now as well as it did before! I don't think that I have to agree on every issue with my Commander in Chief, but I'd like to think he posseses a certain amont of character. Scratch any of us, and you'll find something distasteful, but at least he doesn't roll in it!
