Maybe it's just me, but the idea of an adult, much less a leader responsible for life and death decisions basing their actions on conversations with imaginary beings...well, maybe that's just me.
I know that religion, or lack thereof, certainly affects my political sentiments. I support a woman's right of control over her body, Dr. assisted mercy suicide, stem cell research, etc.
It's not that I resent religion. In many ways it embodies the very hallmark of what makes our kind and our civilizations so. It's hard to frown on the caranage and drama opposing groups sometimes direct at one another in consideration of the theater and hilarity provided by their Shakespearean schemes. On the other hand, who doesn't love serenity and peace; I don't plan on renting my next home in the Gaza strip.
I'm not a misanthrope. I don't resent other people and their idiosyncracies. But the religios life isn't for me. I covet cigars and wenches too much to be distracted by piety.
