Well I WAS going to build a humidor..but damn =p Its hard work. I see alot of nice antique humidors on ebay that I can refinish..an some are just fine but almost all are copper lined? Any thoughts on this copper lining? I guess I could rip it out and reline with SC or lay SC over the copper?
thoughts please
thankd

Why not just bid on a good inexpensive humidor here? I'm up to 9 now ... and most I 'won' for around $20 ...

Dak,The only thing I can offer is this. How many cigars do U intend have in your collection? Whatever that amount is,Double the capacity of anything U intend 2 buy. If U buy just singles and 5packs on CB. Buy an El Grande humidor, that will hold about 300 gars. If U intend 2 buy boxes also,Still buy the humidor but include a Coleman type cooler to store cigars in their boxes. Be sure 2 include a humidifier and hygrometer 2 keep track of the humidity. As far as the antique humidors go,I believe they should be used as conversation piece and not 2 store cigars. X

VENEER!...I saw a copper humidor and mistook it for a bed warmer or colander. I can figure out most antique farming tools but wouldn't try to repair a tractor or fix a milker with one. I guess that's how I feel about antique humidors...I wouldn't entrust one with my cigars. I saw another metal humidor (it might have been copper) on an auction site. It was being touted as having belonged to Ulysses Grant. Looked like an incense burner. Good luck...you can basically turn anything into a humidor.

I get you dakota. I have been looking at the old humidors on ebay for awhile now. I bought a small one to fix up for my brother. Any old one with cedar lining will need said lining replaced. It gets musty and mildewy after a long time. I assume you mean the copper lined cabinets. That's how they sealed in the moisture back in the day. You also see tin and other cheap sheet metals. If you buy a basket case for cheap then a refurb is a good idea. Refinish the exterior. Keep the copper (or whatever) if it's in good shape. Try it like that! If the humidity is too high you can always fit some cedar in. Don't glue it in! Nice cabinetry on some of those things. Be nice to have for full box storage.

Hey! I bought a used humidor on E-Bay this past winter for $28. The ad left a little to the imagination, but I wound up with a 100 count solid walnut dor, with a beautiful hand rubbed finish and mitred lid and base. Keep your eyes open!

i use a plastic sweater box to store cigars until i get the chance to put them in the correct humidor. with a soapdish humidifier it holds it's humidity. the problem with most cheap humidors is two fold. one, they don't seal very well and two, people that buy them use the lousy humidifier that comes with them. the sealing is not so much a problem if they are humidified with a device that will work for more than 2 or 3 days, which none of the little buggers do. my advice is buy what you can afford, get 2, 50's instead of 1, 100+ and make your own humidifierS. instructions [email protected].
