Cable and network news get ratings by scaring the hell out of people. "A toy may kill you child!!! News at 11PM" You are concerned now, your kids are playing, but you have to wait until the very end of the 1100 new broadcast to find out it's pretty much BS or a toy no one has ever seen.
Consider this case of Ebola a wake up call.
Unfortunately, comments about government incompetence are still valid. The extraordinary measures implemented for this once case could not be done if there were more cases of Ebola or the next human scrounge. The hospital sent home all the workers that possibly came in contact with the one patient, a few more cases and there would be no one to care for any medical condition. Scale that up to say a flu pandemic and it is easy to see we are not well prepared.
