What he says is true, and yes, get a flu shot and other vaccinations.

Cable and network news get ratings by scaring the hell out of people. "A toy may kill you child!!! News at 11PM" You are concerned now, your kids are playing, but you have to wait until the very end of the 1100 new broadcast to find out it's pretty much BS or a toy no one has ever seen.

Consider this case of Ebola a wake up call.

Unfortunately, comments about government incompetence are still valid. The extraordinary measures implemented for this once case could not be done if there were more cases of Ebola or the next human scrounge. The hospital sent home all the workers that possibly came in contact with the one patient, a few more cases and there would be no one to care for any medical condition. Scale that up to say a flu pandemic and it is easy to see we are not well prepared.

Getting my flu shot in a few minutes. I also get a pneumonia shot every 2-3 years due to an immunity problem. Combined with allergy shots it seems to be working.

The overreaction to Ebola is crazy.

When I told a nurse that I never get the flu shot, she says to me... neither do I, they're only guessing at which strain of virus will show up each year.

Stay fit. Drink a lot of water. Wash your hands.

No shots for me...

In all fairness MACS, their "guessing" at which strain will show up is a bit more than what you are assuming. They are modeling tons of epidemiological data and using as much information as possible about developing flu season before making a call. And they are right more than they are wrong. To call it "guessing" is a bit disparaging. If that's what you think they are doing, you may as well fire all the experts and just flip a coin.

That being said, I don't bother getting the flu shot. I don't interact with the major vectors (children, hospitals, people with children), so there isn't any real need for me to.
