But isn't that essentially the definition of "white privilege"? To be able to work within the system to ensure that your tax money is most efficiently spent on stuff you need.
The article essentially proves the existence of white privilege while pretending it's a myth created by blacks and liberals.
The article proves that it was written by someone who is clueless about what is really going on.
This has been brewing for quite some time. A few years back, a property tax package was put forth that would raised taxes on anyone who owned a home in the parish valued greater than $75,000. Overall, the package called for about $1.25B in new taxes over a 20-30 year period. A large % of the tax would have gone towards a new beadquarters complex for the Baton Rouge City Police Department. Another large percentage would have paid for tourist development along the Mississippi River.
The problem is as there are 4 incorporated areas in the parish. All of those cities have their own police departments. The citizens of those communities would have been paying property taxes to support the city police of another city in addition to there own cities. Likewise for the people of the St. George area. They already pay taxes for law enforcement from the Sheriff's office and are not served by the Bato Rouge Police City Police. But, city leaders wanted them to subsidize them as well as pay taxes to the Sheriffs office.
As far as the development project on the Mississippi river. Tax dollars generated from that project would have been paid to the city of Baton Rouge. The people in St. George live outside the city limits and as such would not benefit from those taxes collected, yet they would be forced to pay taxes to build it.
Then there is the issue of schools. They feel that money is being collected from there community to build schools outside there area.
Basically their argument is tax dollars are being collected from them and being used elsewhere. Think back a few hundred years ago when $$$ was being collected in the colonies and shipped back to the king.
