lol jjan...
I'm a Native atheist, I have no desire to have any rights stripped from anyone. In fact, I'm a staunch supporter of the first and second amendments.
I'd rather they keep columbus day, say as everyone can remember his murderous acts of attempted genocide. History needs to be remembered, but if he merely drops out of history... I don't really care. There's plenty of other murderous conquerors for kids to read about.
Even though I tend to look at religious beliefs as antiquated ideas from the past that can't stand up to scrutiny from modern knowledge and tech, I still think you should be able to go kneel on a wood beam on Sundays (or Saturdays) if you so choose.
With that, just like most sets of people, there are going to be good with the bad. My grandmother grew up with a gentlemen by the name of Father Bill who was a man I very much respected. He would always come to my Grandmother's events, and lead prayers and such. Just because I choose not to believe, doesn't mean I shun my family who does, or am not able to be friends with those who do.
With that, there's a lot of history that people don't hear about when it comes to natives, much more than I can get into in this thread. In any case, I believe that history (good and the bad) needs to be preserved, just as I believe as much history as possible should be conserved for future generations who are interested in the knowledge.
I'm very much opposed to sweeping history under the rug, and I'm very opposed to changing history by the politically motivated. Though I am in favor of updating the history books as new evidence is found.
IMO, atheist catch more discrimination that any racial or sexual group. Almost all other beliefs systems tend to tell their followers that atheists should not be trusted nor befriended, and in some cases "killed where ever you shall find them".
