It was a coffee based sauce that used "one pot of strong black coffee" that was then reduced somewhat. Sugar and tomato were in it too IIRC. Can't remember if he said that in an email or posted it here though.
There really aren't that many ways to make a coffee BBQ sauce while maintaining the flavor of the coffee and keep it palatable.
