Recently started walking to get ready to do my first 5k and as usual for myself went to hard to fast. Both heels are inflamed now and the 5k is in the morning.

Sadly, I’ve been there, done that.
Many, many moons ago but like you, i overtrained. Also used a lightweight training / racing flat when it was doing LSD (...that’s “Long Slow Distance” for you wise guys...). Ultimately got two Cortisone shots in my heels (...gawd, they were PAINFUL!...) but the injury basically took me out of running and back into competitive tennis again. Took awhile before I felt “normal” again.
Hopefully you’ll take it easy and not injure yourself more.
