I would have said this a year ago...maybe still do...love the Stax/Volt music and stories...but, I do love Motown, too...but, more and more, I love the stories about the history and locality of great music -- but every region has its great history and music, too. Been watching a lot of documentaries that sure bring that home....growing up, I was pretty oblilvious to the significance of Booker T, the Swampers, or Hal Blaine, not to mention HDH or Gamble and Huff. I'd heard of and knew a little of Spector and Gordy, but never realized, at the time, how geography (and the business) played such a role in R&B and soul. Was a time when I thought Motown was simply synonomous with R&B/soul/funk
