You spend 10 minutes trying to convince us that you're "OK" with the religious based displays in sports.
Then you admit that you were glad when the Sox traded Gonzalez.
At the time, AGon was among the best sluggers in baseball.
So why were you glad he was traded?
Can't be his chest-thump and pointing to the sky. You just convinced us that you were OK with it...
yup, missed the I joke...
There are a lot of religious athletes, odds are I'd dislike at least one of them...sheeesh!
but not because of strong belief as the basis for strength of character. In this case, quite the opposite. He was a selfish stat compiler, but that's different than being a team guy and a winning type player. Some stars do all of the above.
He complained about stuff all the time, he was a locker room divider, and he accepted defeat without a champ's anguish wondering what he could have maybe done differently. Instead he said if God's plan called for them to win last night, they would have won. And he probably never had a sleepless night.
For my money, he did not have the right kind of make up to be a winner. And he used religion as an excuse, not something I can warm up to.
I think the Sox agreed with me. He went in a salary dump for pennies on the dollar...
Glad he was traded for the same reasons I was glad Nomar was traded...it made room for positive attitude team first players...and then some winning happened.
