I'll take it...almost had a chance last week, when our county announced it was including 65+ year olds in the group getting vaccines...tried getting an appointment, but all the locations were booked...

now the county says it is out of vaccines, and doesn't know when it'll get more...

California has 1.9 million unused doses now.

Volunteered at a POD, got a shot (Pfizer) and a guarantee of the second. Wife has a volunteer shift on the books, hopefully it pans out for her.

One hour of intense chils, sweats, woke me up the morning after the shot. Intense arm soreness for a day. I have heard the response to the second shot is worse...

I think my answer based on todays meeting is yes and as I said before it's a no brainer in my mind, but I do want to talk to my cardiologist and Gynecologist first. Just cause. I don't really know it it moves me up the list or removes me from it. I suspect the former.

Isn't it amazing how they are figuring out it's RNA doing all the heavy lifting while DNA just sits there sucking it's thumb. I'm taking it... after you all take it and I see it's effects on the continuously crotchety. fog

Governor Newsom has been sitting on them in warehouse until the inauguration. I expect they will free up now and the death watch numbers will also start to improve.

Problem with the vaccines if you get too cute about who gets it and who doesn’t you end up throwing it away. once it’s mixed with saline the clock really starts ticking.

that was the primary reason given for trashing them...agencies were too afraid to ignore the guidelines when they had more than they needed to jab the tier 1A folks and couldn't get approval to go to lower tiers...some places ignored the guidelines after the first shots were given and they had left overs, gave them to random peeps...

So you're OK that pharmacies ignore guidelines and inject random peeps with the vaccine?

What if Trump tweeted that people should check in at your local healthcare places, pharmacies, etc. because they have leftover doses and that these places should ignore guidelines and go ahead and give any leftovers to anyone asking for them, even stop passerbys to offer the injections?

You guys would be foaming at the mouth about impeachment, overstepping bounds, ignoring the science professionals, malpractice, inciting mobs to storm the healthcare facilities and any other blather you could come up with.

Tell me I'm wrong.

No. I was referring to the guidelines themselves. The root.

But it's still OK for them to ignore the guidelines and go ahead and act on their own?

Again, if Trump tweeted for them to do this what would your reaction be?

No. I’m talking about common sense setting the guidelines. I’m not where you are at at all.

I thought we were supposed to follow the guidelines set out by the medical professionals who know all the data and stuff. So we just ditch that and now set the guidelines based on common sense and ignore the medical professionals' guidelines? If we are to set the guidelines based on common sense, who's common sense are we suppose to be using?

Sounds kinda hypocritical when you've been beating the drum that we must follow the guidelines and mandates set up by the medical professionals all this time. You've been blasting everyone for not doing so. But when the health care professionals don't follow the guidelines they are just using common sense so it's all good.

Within each shipment of vaccine, the guidelines for who gets what and when simply states: "Guidelines for administering: Use your common sense."

I like it, short and sweet. Uses less paper.

Still wondering what your reaction would have been if Trump tweeted to ignore the guidelines and just use common sense, go to the nearest healthcare facility and ask if they have any leftovers to give out.

Jonsie, see any leftovers while dumpster diving? Set up a vaccine booth at your HUT.

Feel free to elaborate. The initial questions I has were.

So you're OK that pharmacies and/or health care facilities ignore guidelines and inject random peeps with the vaccine?

What if Trump tweeted that people should check in at your local healthcare places, pharmacies, etc. because they have leftover doses and that these places should ignore guidelines and go ahead and give any leftovers to anyone asking for them, even stop passerbys to offer the injections?

Allow me to jump into TW's headspace for a moment.

1) Damn, my azz hurts. When will it stop? Guess I really was full of chit.

2) If Trump were to tweet exactly as you stated, then yes, he would be met with ridicule. Overwhelming facilities that don't have the supply to meet demand will end badly.

However, if he were to come up with something along the lines of empowering these vaccine facilities to come up with a procedure to create a wait list after the local 1a needs were met in order to use doses effectively as opposed to tossing them in the garbage, this would be chalked up to common sense.

3) Wrong forum, noob. Political inflammation can be had at any number of other threads on a daily basis

So 9 - do you really expect that anyone with any sense pays attention to what trump tweets ? We should have stand byes for excess vaccine doses - we don't have enough to throw them away.

Bucky I don’t know how else to say it. I’m not suggesting nor have I ever that anyone should ignore guidelines. Thus your question to me makes no sense.

So no I’m not ok with what you describe Trump doing in your hypothetical. No. Just no.

More common sense is needed in setting the guidelines or protocols. Some states did better than others at it. There are no federal limits once the states get it. There really was not much of a distribution plan at all particularly with the military and singing angels etc. that was all made up like the health care plan coming next week. It was a lie.

There are some suggestions but that’s it. Some states went overboard with their rules and some providers took it very literally and evidently scared of repercussions if not following state or local guidelines. It really depends on locality how silly things are. A little common sense would go a long way.

I think you have tunnel vision on this one.

As for wrong forum.... probably yes. Unfortunately. This never should have been political.

And for the record there are folks not on the “priority list” getting the vaccine in instances where otherwise it would be thrown away. The guidelines are not meant to dissuade this. I’ve spoken to more than one who benefited from this.

There was never an intention to be so draconian. It’s a perishable product. This isn’t new in the medical field nor is it controversial or political. Politics should stay out. The fact politics or fear of it is even involved may contribute to wasted doses.

Let it rest Bucky. Does no good at this point. People see what they want to see.

Besides... it's our turn to criticize everything Biden does or says. You 100% know the media won't.

my sense is that people who give out are better, don't matter if it's vaccines or bread...

lotta stores have specific use by dates, and would typically throw tons of food away...many don't follow the letter of the law, instead donating food to food banks or homeless shelters where it is consumed safely and quickly...

but guidelines that are designed to keep people safe and healthy, like OSHA, should commonly be followed and if not, there should be consequences...

Tell em how you really feel... oh wait, never took a mensa test accept for that one that was online a while back that was trying to sell menza memberships. After taking it, it tried to sell me a membership, but I'm sure it did that for everyone, so I didn't feel all that special. Plus I was a broke college student at the time, so I don't have an online menza certificate... in hindsight I should have bought it.

Delta there are no guidelines federally. CDC has suggestions but really once out to the states so be it.

Each state is different. Some did better than others.

The whole debate here is built on false premises and misses the reality.

Came in a bit hot this morning, sorry...

It's just that, the way people on the far right can't stand people on the far left and find their ideologies to be ridiculous, and the way people on the far left can't stand people on the far right and find their ideologies to be ridiculous - that's how the vast majority of our nation views both of these groups of people...

So if you're on the far right and have ever found yourself disgusted by the people and policies on the far left - that's how normal people look at you all the time... same for the far left....

It's gotten old... it's 2 groups of people too stupid to know how stupid they are... and they're loud...
