For a series of years, I had no contact with this year. About 6 months ago, on a whim reached out to them. They were initially wary- Why are you reaching out now? What are you looking to achieve? What do you want? etc.
Once they realized there wasn't an angle, just me checking in, it was a nice series of friendly texts. Got caught up, suggested we stay in touch loosely and went our separate ways. Felt good about it.
Yesterday, I got a text with a request for a favor. Someone they know is in their mid-40s, has ALS and about the only thing which still gives with person joy is cigars. The suggested route would be for the person who reached out to the ALS person, find out their cigar preferences, share those preferences with me, and asked if I might be able to round up some smoke donations. The would provide the ALS person's address making it easy for anyone to donate directly to them.
My wife's suggested course is to not be a part of it.
Sooooo. What do you folks think?
I don't blame Russ, or any of you for that matter, for being suspicious.
First off, for those of you here who might remember me, I used to be known here as "ruggysgirl." My name is Heather. I have not been affiliated with Rugrunner for the past 12 years or so, save for the fact that we have two kids together. If there is any concern about donated cigars going to him, please be assured that I would not give him the time of day to save his immortal soul.
A little background . . . I got to know Chris through is wife, Vicki, who was my daughter's paraprofessional in school. He was diagnosed with ALS about 5 or 6 years ago, and it is very aggressive. Chris can no longer work, and one of the few things he has left that he can truly enjoy is a cigar.
I reached out to Russ because I had no intention of coming back here. I truly do not want any interaction with Rugrunner, and I know that he has tried to come back on at least one occasion. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Chris. I'm hoping to get him hooked up with this group, because I think he would enjoy interacting with you all and learning more about cigars.
If you don't want to participate, I'm totally cool with that. I plan on heading to the local to pick up some smokes for him later this week. Peace.
