Wifey bought a new flocked but fake Christmas tree in October from QVC but we're still waiting for it. We went fake about 10 years ago 'cause we were told that the (real) tree needles, if ingested, would not be good for our daughter's dog.

I've never had a real tree. Never been to someone's house with a real tree either.

Wife put ours up on Thanksgiving. I always said no Christmas decor until December. She keeps pushing it up and would put that damn tree up on labor day. Problem is now the boy is big enough to help her carry it up from the basement so I cant control it anymore. The boy has a Charlie brown tree in his bedroom along with a few strings of lights and light up lawn decorations.

Christmas lights went up before Thanksgiving too for weather reasons. But they didn't get turned on until after Thanksgiving.

Until today it’s been constant rain / wetness on our side of the island for nearly two weeks straight so finally put up some lights this morning. Got more to do but Championship Weekend is too good to miss.

Hello Conan,!!!
sorry to hear your weather’s been so crappy my friend. Yes when I got home From The Lounge yesterday my wife had our tree up. And yes, it’s a fake tree however we have always had a real tree ever since we were married. So I would say for roughly 37 of our 42 years we’ve had real trees most times going to a tree farm, selecting and cutting one ourselves.

Put the tree up today but it only has lights on it. We'll decorate it this week.

I was always a real tree guy until the past couple years. Even did the living tree thing once. Why kill a tree for decoration? I'll buy a living tree with a root ball then it plant it after Christmas is over.

FAIL. Try to dig a hole in the ground to plant a tree in the northern latitudes in January - it's not happening. It sounded good but I didn't think it through.

I gave up on the real tree thing when I accepted the fact that it's a PIA and a chore. $100 or more each year for a dead tree, gotta go pick one out, drag it in and set it up, need to water it twice a day. Then the shedding of needles. Them things are in the carpet all year long no matter how often you vacuum.

I do miss the smell of a pine tree in the house though.. and putting one in the fire pit... them things light up like a torch.

We were going to go pick and cut our tree today but rain delay until next week. For us it's about tradition. Every year my wife and I and my parents and my two sister's families all go to the tree farm together, drink hot chocolate, and select our trees. We love the smell of the real tree but mostly it's about everybody getting together for a Christmas tradition.

Usually we are late getting the tree up, this year it went up on black Friday. My mother-in-law is in her final days and my wife wanted to give are a chance to see some decorations before she's gone.

My wife has one small ceramic tree and a manger scene up. The tree and much much more has to wait until we receive about 20+ boxes and several family things shipped in from my sister's home in California. The shipment is due any day.

Hey Paul!

The rainy weather seems to have left us so probably put up more lights today. 🤞

One thing I’ve noticed about our street is that less and less houses have outdoor decorations or lights this year. Iffin’ I counted correctly, only 6 out of 20-something have put up something.

My wife has a whole buncha stuff that she normally puts up but for some reason she hasn’t asked me to bring them down from the attic or get them from our storage locker yet. I’mma afraid she’s gonna realize it soon and make me scramble to get the boxes as well as clear out space on the furniture she likes to use.

We have a wall of plastic storage boxes in our bedroom. They used to be kept in a storage closet downstairs but carrying them all up and down the stairs got to be too much. It's not pretty, but it beats wrecking our backs. Just a few things would be fine with me, however my wife absolutely loves Christmas and every Christmas decoration.

Wife put up the entire ceramic village on Black Friday with snow. We put up a smallish fake tree at the same time.

Our tradition when the kids were younger was always to go up to the mountains of northern AZ and cut our own. A permit cost about $5 at that time. I always had a Toyota Land Cruiser or some other 4 wheeler and we would convoy with my brothers who also had 4 wheelers, kids, dogs, so we could go into snow country and find the ideal tree, have snow ball fights, build a fire and make a full day of it.

Kids are grown now but always talk about all the fun times and misadventures we had on those trips. One year we pulled off the dirt road at a frozen cattle pond and everybody was sliding around on the ice. My brother had a Bronco and decided to take it out on the ice to do some drifting. Went well for about 5 minutes until his front wheels broke through the ice. We broke 2 chains and one tow strap over the next hour trying to get him back on land. By the time we finally did there were prolly 50 people stopped taking pics and laughing at the antics. Angel

Nice! You won't get great memories like that looking for an artificial tree.

Our salute to capitalism and family tradition went up yesterday, first Fire in the fireplace while decorating and watching football. i mostly supervised as decorating isn't the easiest with a broken shoulder but it looks good. Covered in ornaments from both mine and wife childhood as well as memories of the many countries, states, national parks, and just tons of good times.

we have tried the live tree thing and were not fans, the memory of going and cutting it down with he kiddo are great but the memory of finding pine needles 3-4 years later was not.

yup... even Agnostics and Atheists can celebrate Xmas...

Charles. You're responding to a 15yr old comment. Stop that.

No tree this year due to transitional habitat logistics. That aspect does not upset me.

To those of you whose spouse put the tree up, how'd you pull that arrangement off? Looking for a step by step guide please

I bought the tree. She bought the bulbs and stars and stuff. I set the tree in the stand, she decorated it. My part was wicked easy. She enjoys her part. I did have to put the star on top... she's vertically challenged and we have a 7.5' tree.

Yup... fake one, too. Lights integrated. If you've been doing it for 20 years, I think you're screwed. The FSU kinda screwed.

When my wife said we were gonna fake, one of her selling points was the integrated lights. Of course we still hafta populate it with the ornaments and stuff but at least I didn’t hafta mess with the strings of lights.

We had the integrated lights for a couple years before they started to fail. Then had to cut them out and light the old fashioned way

Franking QVC! Even after my wife talked to Customer Service two weeks ago and was told that the tree was going to be shipped, the frankers backtracked and told her today that they don’t ship for free to Hawaii so was going to charge us $100.

Wifey cancelled the order. Next stop, storage locker to bring back the old one. d'oh!

still sore from this week-end putting up outdoor lights, which involves an hour or so of unwinding strings of faux icycle lights, thousands of them...bending over and replacing burned out bulbs before hanging the strings of lights up...

why do bulbs that light up inside the house during inspection fail when the strings are hung up outside under the eaves...had to lug the tall 40 lb ladder around for couple hours stringing up lights, then up and down replacing dead bulbs...

wife bought a faux lighted tree several years ago...we got tired of going to the tree farm every year and buying a fresh cut tree that always has some blemishes in appearance and usually dries out before Christmas...humidity in SoCal desert is very low in December...

fake tree is a heavy 4 piece 9 feet tall sucker...muscled the box out of the closet, slid it to the tree spot and assembled the tree...fortunately my wife has been the tree fluffer and decorator...she enjoyed doing that since she was a child...happy wife...she didn't notice when I slipped into the Man Cave with a cold beverage and a cigar...

Update, the movers came late yesterday, boxes ready to be sorted out, tow items taken to older son's house. Wife said, :OK, now I can put up the tree. Mellow Fine, I drag out the tree, get it uncovered and now she is getting all the gazzilon lights all working and starting to hang the decorations. Yay! I'm really in the Christmas sprit now. Liar

I know that feeling, exactly, Gene...

the next bit of Christmas drudgery will be the night when my wife shows me a pile of boxes, several rolls of wrapping paper, a baggy of assorted labels and a container of colorful bows...sigh...

maybe I'll take the smaller ones into the man cave so I can sip and puff while I wrap...

just thought of something...

the artificial tree is three years old...it cost about 3 years worth of fresh cut trees...so now we'll be saving $100 or so every Christmas!

OMG, nothing makes me feel like an hapless imbecile like wrapping a Christmas package. Brick wall

To make it worse, my wife's packages are so nice people are reluctant to open them.Sad

Nice savings! Much safer not having a highly flammable dead tree inside your home.

Luckily I do a decent job at wrapping boxes but I really suck at the ribbon part so lotta times my wife will finish off the boxes with her really nice handmade ribbons.

We finally put up our fake tree earlier this week and today put on the ornaments…but wifey said the tree looks too bare so gonna hafta bring down more boxes of stuff.

Tree is up and decorated. Stockings are up. Pretty much done with buying gifts. I hit all the things the kids wanted (it was like pulling teeth to have them give me their wish list) but haven't wrapped them yet. The cat will probably unwrap them before the time so that will have to wait.

I still have a couple last ones to do for some elderly friends and such. Prolly lottery tickets or cash since they say they don't need anything. This is true but not an acceptable answer for me.

My son's girlfriend has not responded on what she want's other than a nice throw blanket. I'll do that but still unacceptable. I have set aside a budget so please use it.

Gonna get each of the kids a couple tickets (each kid gets two tickets so they can take a guest plus some cash spending money) for the Blue Man Group in Boston but they need to pick a date and time. It will be an IOU until they pick a date and time.

I'm not poor, I'm not rich but I'm truly blessed to be alive and have what I have. Some are not so lucky. I like to use my expendable money to share with others that are important in my life and have an impact in my life.

As I get older I've realized that life and happiness is not about monetary things. Health, happiness, peace and comfort come from inside and from others around you, not what's in your wallet. These things are impossible to put a price tag on them.
