I noticed that the new hat is up for bid (Lot # 79386). Just wondering- does anyone know if these hats are available like their past promotions (CAO baseball caps, soccer ball etc.)??? I've been saving a lot of bands and I don't want to bid on an item that I can get basically for free. Thanks for any info.

FYI --- The auction that is up now, is for the CAO Criollo Cap ... and it has never been offered as a promotional item at CAO's website.

... yet! If you bid on it and won it, you would probably be one of the first to own it.

The cap is a promotion for retailers. Here's how it works: buy 5 Criollo cigars and get a free cap. I got one and it's a quality hat. Better act quickly, as these don't last long. My retailer had about 8 of them to give out with the purchase.

Our local retailer had a CAO tasteing and if you bought 3 CAO products you would be entered in a drawing to win the CAO cap.

Did you miss out on this one Jazzman? ( He was gonna go to the tasteing and buy some Criollos anyway, we didn't know which vendor was gonna be there.)

Please allow me to 'splain something ... "cap" and "hat" are not interchangeable words that mean the same thing any more than "robusto" and "churhill" are ...

just as robusto and churchill are terms descriptive of cigars of different sizes, caps and hats are different types of headwear ... "hats" have brims that run all around them, while caps have brims only in the front ... Smokey the Bear wears a hat, Yogi Berra wore a cap ... the fellow pictured on the Fuente Website page at http://www.cigarfamily.com/our_cigars.html is wearing a hat ... the headwear being given in conjunction with the CAO promotions are caps ... CAO knows the difference too and consistently refers to them as caps ...

I know some of you may think this to be an insignificant point ... but you would not use incorrect terms to describe cigars and would not hesitate to point out to a novice that he was using terminology incorrectly ... my point is no less well taken.

I don't believe I've ever seen the hat available from the CAO cigarette website.

Steve,

Deerstalker??? Weren't they that team from Portland, OR.? I can't even remember what their uniforms looked like! Also, I think that Holmes guy was a left-handed closer.

I went to a different local vendor and bought 5 Criollos and got a cap. They have one left. They also had a box of Oliva O maduro, the longer torpedo. And I bought a Montecristo Platinum. They had many other new brands. The clerk said they were not going to order any more "new" smokes until they get some of the others off the shelf.
