...and cigars. I'm close to talking my wife into joining me and having a cigar together. I wanted to know if any of you have some good recommendations for a first-time cigar for a lady. Any suggestions would be appreciated. She smokes cigarettes, if that helps at all.

Padron Churchill Natural is always a winner. Cool smoke, flavorful, not too strong or overwhelming, not too big of a ring gauge. Plus, the aroma off the cigar is divine. Converted my sister to cigars with one of these. Now she's a CigarBid binge bidder like me, like us.

The Padron Churchill works to convert anyone, any gender. My main advice: don't offer her a candied smoke...go with the good, all natural stuff. The day she shows up with a box of PAMs to 'help your relationship deepen' you'll thank me.

MrsS began a year and a half ago with flavored cigars ... cognac, honey, etc ... within 6 months, her tastes evolved into tobacco flavored cigars and one of her current favorites is any of the A.Fuentes that come wrapped in a cedar shaving ... another cigar that's been a big hit with her have been the Maxims that are frequently available here ... but there have been quite a few others she's said she likes as well ... the common characteristic of everything she likes is smoothness and mild to medium bodied strength ...

In my experience getting my girlfriend into cigars, She prefers a thinner ring guage and refuses to smoke past the halfway point of the cigar, she says that it smokes too hot for her past that point. I started her out on flavored but quickly got away from that because I found my self finishing all of her smokes, after all the last half is usually the best. IMO. Also, be patient, she will probably not like anything that you consider to be a good smoke and will make ridiculous comments about the cigars she's smoking. For example, she says everything is "strong" even what I consider to be very, very, very, mild. Last week I gave a lone wolf churchill, renowned for being flavorless, and she said that it was "spicy" if you can believe that.

a beginning cigar for anyone would be a short, thin, mild cigar. being a cigarette smoker she might could 'take' a somewhat stronger cigar but dont start with anything over a solid medium, imo.

thanks for all of the good suggestions. I went to my local cigar store, and they only carried maduros in the Padron line, so I picked up an Ashton Cordial with a Ct shade wrapper. One of the first cigars I tried was an Ashton, very good, very mild. I will let you know how she likes it. Any more ideas are definitely welcome.

Thanks-Joel

One of the first cigars I started with (a C.A.O. Cameroon), I chose by the look...and because there were only about 4 left in the box...a good sign!

I have never smoked a short, thin, or mild cigar just because I was a beginner OR a woman...I smoke what appeals to me and as Slim once said, or something of the sort, I'm all about the girth...just kidding...well, sort of!

But seriously, what I think is a good cigar is a good cigar is a good cigar. Let HER decide on what she feels is a good cigar. I recently *cringe* *gag* *shudder* tried a few puffs of a flavored cigar and hated it. Well, hate may be a strong word. I WON'T try another again, put it that way.

If I want a cherry soda, I'll have a cherry soda. If I want a cognac, I'll have it. If I want honey, I'll put it on my toast thank you! But don't MESS with my cigars. I enjoy the distinct flavors of the different tobacco blends and so on.

A while back, I had been advised by Todog to try La Gloria Cubana Corona Gorda. JJohnson28 recommended C.A.O. Cameroon and Extreme (love both btw)and Cliffie suggested Punch Gran Cru among others...Eleltea said the answer is Excalibur...JD1 said PAM among others and calavera said Davidoff No. 2 in the Panatela size. Chris said Perdomo Reserve X Maduro and xrundog said Excalibur #5.

I hope that may help. The store ought to have at least SOME of these suggestions! Search for the thread "Need your best input ASAP..." to find all of the suggestions...it got me on the right track!

AND...if all else fails, get her liquored up and pawn off your dog rockets on her, she'll never know!

It's a joke. Save the dog rockets for the moochers...

Thanks for the advice E-chick. BTW I did read the 'Need your best input ASAP.' She actually asked me to select a cigar for her. So...I ended up chosing the Ashton Cordial because of the thin girth. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the thicker the cigar, the greater volume of smoke (usually)? I chose a thin cigar for her to start on because I didn't want her to be overwhelmed with too much smoke. Do you all agree, or does it not matter that much?

As a new woman smoker, I find that I'm attracted more to cigars with a wider girth. My first was an AVO #3. IMHO the blandest most flavorless cigar I've ever had. Since then I've settled on CAO Brazilia Gol as my favorite with the Hemingway Churchill as #2. Tonight I'm going to enjoy the Brazilia Samba my secret santa sent me.

I say go with a good cigar over what you think will appeal to her as a woman

Good advice Chandra. And I'll have to say, you picked a mighty fine cigar as your favorite.
