They have a wonderful flavor profile, because the leaves (being sun-grown) get the extra exposure to the sunlight.
The more sun the leaves get, the darker the color and the greater the oil and sugar content the wrapper will have ... and a sweeter and stronger the flavor is likely to be. Sun-grown wrappers normally will have spent longer time on the tobacco plant, or come from higher altitudes ... which means the extra exposure to sunlight produces both extra oil (as protection) and more sugar (through photosynthesis). They are also fermented longer ...
Sun-grown tobacco leaves develop a richer reddish hue and are more robust and more heavily-veined. This makes for a more powerful, robust flavor generally best suited for true aficionados (or your grizzly grandfather with one remaining taste bud).
Shade-grown tobacco is more delicate and much lighter in both color and flavor.
