An odd pairing fo’ sure. They didn’t come back till 2004. Saw LZ during their 1970 tour to promote Led Zeppelin III. Jimmy Page was like a stick. It looked like he was gonna fall down because his Les Paul outweighed him. |

Supertramp - Crime of the Century
One of my earliest serious headphone album discoveries....good turntable, quality amp and a pair of Koss that weighed about 5 pounds.....made hair stand up on my neck...every single time.....saw them a few times - every show opened with that harmonica opening School....still knee-buckling, even recorded. For me it ranked up there with show openers like Ride the Tiger and Thunderstruck |

One of my earliest serious headphone album discoveries....good turntable, quality amp and a pair of Koss that weighed about 5 pounds.....made hair stand up on my neck...every single time.....saw them a few times - every show opened with that harmonica opening School....still knee-buckling, even recorded. For me it ranked up there with show openers like Ride the Tiger and Thunderstruck I wasn’t paying too much attention to the show, heard some sort of introduction, looked up and saw this light-skinned, neck-tattooed, biracial guy with some white guys around him. I was pretty blown away when he started to sing. Never in a million years would I have expected a baritone country singer. Iffin’ you had closed your eyes, you woulda thought for sure he was a good ol’ (White) country boy. As far as headphones go, my first pair of Koss headphones were the Pro-4As and they were pretty heavy. Dunno about 5 pounds heavy but after awhile, they sure felt that way. My hair-stand-on-end moment was listening to Santana’s “Caravanserai”. The way the guitars “swished” around were mind blowing. Made me lightheaded...and I wasn’t even stoned! |

When H&O started to change their sound with “War Babies” (...produced by Todd Rundgren - I should have expected that...), I kinda lost interest in them. Really liked their folky, blue-eyed soul sound on the first two albums. However, as they turned more pop-ish in the early ‘80s, came back to enjoy listening to them again. I have to say, in their prime, they had some really catchy music. |

The Cars - self-titled first album
I remember when I first heard this album in ‘76. Was working at Records Hawaii and Pat, the other clerk that day, put it on. We had just gotten a bunch of demos the day before so was trying to listen to the new stuff. Within a minute of “Good Times Roll”, I had a feeling we were gonna like these new guys. Everyone else at the store liked it and it quickly became a staff favorite so it was probably played a couple times a day. In the first few months after it’s release, we sold a bunch of copies to customers that were shopping when it was on. As much as we liked them, we had no idea that they’d turn into such a big time group.
65F / 55% RH / 14 mph - I know this would be considered “warm” in most parts of the Mainland but it’s flockin’ FREEZING to us Hawaii folks...sweatshirt, jacket and long socks out in the garage! |
