Four Roses Single Barrel - just the "regular" expression

Not an elitist, just happen to be within driving range of some remarkable Four Roses offerings.

Monkey Shoulder

Meh, doesn't make my value list

I find that really interesting, Shaun. I realize my whisky palate isn’t great, but for me I’d rather buy Monkey than a 12 yo Speyside single malt. Not enough difference to warrant twice the price. What do you recommend I try as a value scotch? Thanks!

Haven't had much luck in the value Scotch department honestly. I have gone through a bottle and a half of JW Rye I picked up on clearance sale for $25 each last year. I guess I find more value in bourbon and rye like Sazerac and four roses small batch or even Evan Williams single barrel.

Give Singleton 12 yo a try. May not be your cup of tea but if not, you have not lost a lot.

Another non-bank breaker is Denston 12. Had it a couple of times at cousin in laws and was impressed for the price point. May be a better choice than the Singleton 12.

I know they don’t have either at my local ABC, but I’ll check out the Mountain Brook location. Thanks for the tips!

What did you pay for it. Just wondering because they couldn’t guarantee the age. I think they had to release it early because of a bourbon theft. They had to get it to market because it caused a shortage but the price didn’t drop on it.

Guess I will be loving from a far. Located a bottle at the State ABC store this P.M. and was only priced at $193 and change and then throw on 10% tax. Was not hard to pass up.

Basil Hayden Dark Rye

Nice dark liquor with just the right amount of sweetness. Port influence is most obvious.

Much better offering than the original Basil Hayden Rye. Very nice for $32 bottle, IMHO.

That was neat, brother. I never bothered to add a drop or two of water. Might be a whole new experience. I was enjoying it straight, though.

Ayite... I poured a couple (few) fingers of the Aberlour 16, again. This time I put a couple drops of purified water.

Well, damn. Whole new experience, and I like it.

The fella I dealt with at the car dealer was Scottish. He told me the name is pronounced Ab-er-lau-er. Like Matt Lauer. Also said it's a city... and if you blink while you're driving through, you'll miss it all.
