Hey Allen the same day we spoke and I asked to clarify the name of the rose you suggested La Farge ( I bought a bottle Le Farghe) I immediately saw and bought a bottle of red that says:

Domaine
Lafage
Nicloas
vieilles vignes de grenache (100%)...Roussillon
it's 2018, an Eric Solomon selection, reads like it's pretty full bodied and fruity, and suggests will age well.
The word Miraflors is there somewhere, you gave that a thumbs up once on a post I made...

It's to fruit forward Carl. If they backed the fruit down a about 50% it would be much better IMHO. Though it is designed for a specific crowd and sells very well.

Very dry on the end, with an overpowering amount of oak bitterness. It's not bad - just doesn't fit my palate. I don't care for dry cabs or other wines.

Ledger David 2016 Cab Franc. The nose is a bit boozier than past releases but still has that signature nose of dark cherries, a touch or blackberry and a backbone of fig sweetness. My desert island wine.

One thing is the high abv because of the high summer temps.

I would agree with DED ^ that fog sweetness is something I do get from other wines, but there’s something about the LD that always leaves looking for exactly what it is.

Did most of the vineyards make it ok?

It’s gonna be a rough vintage. The fires in August covered the Bay Area and Napa and Sonoma with thick smoke for a month. Harvest was just getting started so smoke taint is going to be a problem except for Alexander Valley.

The Glass fire managed to find the unburnt gap between the 2017 fires and even crossed the valley floor. The vineyards tend to act as fire breaks In the valley and often are ok. The wineries burn up and some are gone. The vineyards on the mountains don’t fare well.

I’m supposed to be up there this weekend but I suspect that will have to cancel.

Ended up taking a bottle of 2016 Cab Franc and their new (2019) Sangiovese Rose (they tend to use a different varietal every year for their rose.

Drank they whole bottle of Rosé while making them eating pierogies last night. Light sweetness and the distinctive bright Sangiovese characteristics.

Interesting, 2016's from Willamette valley may be the best ever.

So far 64 of ~ 400 Napa wineries are in the evacuation zone.

Castello di Amorosa saved the castle but lost the attached farmhouse which stored all bottled wine.

Chateau Boswell destroyed.

Fairwinds Estate Winery, Hourglass Winery, Newton Vineyard, Paloma, Sterling Vineyards all serious damage.

Many others saved the winery but lost all the surrounding buildings.
