Streaming Video: What are you watching?

Been watching the History channel and the Military channel this weekend. I love history and stuff and history of war stuff. I thank God that I never had to go to war. I have the upmost respect for those that did. There's no words strong enough that I can find in my vocabulary for the thanks that they deserve.

Currently watching the Band of Brothers on Netflix. It's been a few years since I've watched it. I think it's a great series.

On a side note, my favorite WWII planes were the P-51 Mustang and the P-38 Lightning.

The Mustang had the fire power and the range to escort the bombers into Germany, escort them back then turn around (still gas in the tank) to do some strafing and hit targets of interest. An older guy I worked with in a past life (he was British) pointed out to me that the P-51 couldn't have been as effective as they were until they swapped out the Allison engine to a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine.

Boz Scaggs 2004 concert on Netflix.

First song was “Lowdown” and immediately thought of MACS. Second song was “Slow Dancer” and flashed on the only time I saw Boz. Was in ‘74 or ‘75 and at the Andrew’s Amphitheater on the University of Hawaii campus. He was still relatively unknown so the venue was mebbe 3/4 full. But it was a heck of a show.

As far as the 2004 show, it is definitely slicker than the show I saw 30 years earlier but Boz is in fine form. Iffin’ you’re a Scaggs fan, I’d definitely recommend it.

Just finished the new season of Outer Range and I thought it was a good continuation and though it’s not a cliffhanger the suspense is sustainable and the plot doesn’t get bogged down.

You watching this one, RAM? It has an excellent cast IMHO. That Pullman kid pulls his weight, pun fully intended.

Bob Dylan - No Direction Home.

2005 documentary film by Martin Scorsese that traces the life of Bob Dylan, and his impact on 20th-century American popular music and culture. I think it was on PBS or Amazon (shrug) but I have it on my computer media center.

I was never a big Dylan fan. Great musician, great lyrics, great song writer and so on. In my opinion he sucked as a singer. After watching this documentary I've gained more appreciation of the man and what he did for music.

Bucky, I agree. In college I took one of those survey courses in Poetry and the curriculum focused on a movement or period of time while covering one or two poets for each classroom session. Anyway, I got a new perspective on Dylan after watching a bit of documentary and reading some of his lyrics. Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson are two other artists that don’t really have a classic singer voice but they own their songs and nobody who covers them can do them better IMHO.

I'm not a big fan of country or western music but have great admiration of the the idols like Johnny Cash and the like.

I think Cash is referenced in the Dylan documentary and some snipet vids. He was a big influence for Dylan. Dylan took a lot of different styles and he melded together. Blues, country, folk, rock, and stuff. He got boooed off the stage and mini riot at the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island (a big to do in this area) when he took took out and played an electric guitar.

It's a good documentary. One of the snipets was a newspaper or magazine guy asking him about his lyrics. Are you trying to make a point on war and politics (paraphrase). His reply was, I just write music and sing songs. You can interpret them however you want.

He was invited to do many protests at the time but didn't attend - I'm just a musician and poet, average joe.

A lot of his music and lyrics were performed and recorded by other awesome artists.

I’m binging Northern Exposure. I was overseas for the entire decade of the ‘90s. My friend recommended it because he thought I might like it. He was correct. I do like it.
