For you newbies, Todd, aka The General, posted this a couple of years ago as to what to expect.

One quick comment...

As this annual herf has gotten bigger every year, FGM works harder and harder as host fretting about all the stuff that the rest of us take for granted

Remember to bring cigars for the Table, and a nice bottle for the Island would be nice too...

We the attendees need to step up and help out with some of the daily chores so FGM can have an actual chance to enjoy the whole weekend instead of having to deal with dishes/garbage/clean up etc etc (more chores than what was done this year)

Our chef blu needs to have dedicated sous chefs with him for prepping each meal. (y'all did good this year, but we can do even better next year)

We should really not be playing our own music and interrupting the great musical entertainment already being provided by Dart Dorman, FGM and the rest of the band. (If ya don't like the musical selection then there is always the porch)

We did a fair job of helping this year, we need to do more next year

So be prepared to help take trash to the dumpster, wash dishes, police the grounds, chop veggies, stir jambalaya or whatever else needs to be done to make sure FGM & blu get more time relaxing and actually herfing with us

And to those that helped this year Many Thanks from me!!!

He posted this the following year.....

As an up front statement...The fine BOTL really helped FGM and blu be more relaxed at the 8th Annual. So be ready to chip in again

The Herf Host Hit for the 9th Annual Fishin Herf is going to be Dart Dorman, our all weekend musical entertainment. FGM will post ideas in the near future as to prefered drinks, picks, guitar strings, musical tastes and other gift ideas.

If you have any allergies, please let bluwater know( so we can make sure to get you a double dose of whatever it is you are allergic to... )

And don't forget to be prepared to fill the Tip Jar...TJ said it best a while back, consider what you would pay to eat out like Southern Royalty for 3 days and Tip accordingly to help defray food costs. I know from past experience that produce alone usually runs between $75 and $150 depending on the overall menu. But the Chef brings everything else normally and that adds up fast.

Some of the tasks that will need to be performed to ease the burdens

Sous Chefs for each meal
Loaders/unloaders of the heavy stuff into/out of vehicles
The fishin monitors...transporting people and equipment to and from the lake. (Mattie's in charge)
The shooting monitors are pretty much taken care of but we still need transportation and cleanup
trash picker uppers
trash hauling to the dump up the road
"stealing" beer from TJ's cooler
washing dishes as needed (load and run dish washing machine)
being mandoman's "beotch" and make sure he has his "finger" of Scotch
vehicle washers (this task is for first timers, and they must wash the herf host and da chefs' vehicles) Gotta be a bit of "hazing" goin on friggen noods slipped on this at the 8th
cigar smokers
cabin clean-up duties like sweeping the floor and wiping down the counters, etc
guitar players
tour guides
catch of the day cleaners (bass and bream)
I am sure there are some tasks that I am forgetting

items to bring also that would be of use by all.

Paper towels
toilet paper
trash bags
ice
drink mixers
Paper Plates
Plastic utinsels
Red Solo Cups
Boiled peanuts (for the host of course )

other items needed

Cigars (there is a "community" table set up every year, bring some of your favs to share)
Booze
Beer
towel if you plan on washing the funk off
A chair to sit on

on a side note, if you are looking to shoot but aren't bringing a gun, bring a box of ammo

22 LR
9mm
40 S&W
12 Ga
410 shotshell
45 ACP
223/5.56
7.62x39

And most of all...be ready to have a good time

Todd

I'll be bringing an AR, a 9mm, and a few .40 S&W's. Anyone interested in shooting bring some ammo.

I would say yes, but I suck at it. LoL.

What is the most fun gun to shoot while we are there that the ammo doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

I would love to shoot but dont think it wise to cut a partially blind man loose with a weapon. Now here is my biggest concern.

If a man has to ask this question well lets just say this. If anyone gives hank a weapon, Let me get to the other side of the house and put large amounts of wood tween me and him please. I do not need a bullet in my arse! I really do not want to have to come home and tell everyone how I was Dick Cheneyed by a guy who is sending out postcard stamps of his nutsack. d'oh!

I have shot a fair amount of guns over the years, just not very good at it. Don’t worry Ewok, I don’t kill fuzzy animals. Haha

This is what I worry about lol.

To try and answer your question, also keep in mind it has been a few years for me. Most of the time your smaller caliber ammo such as 22 is the cheapest that and 12 gauge Shotgun shells. In my area anyway.

Now for most fun depends on your taste. I prefer long range bolt action rifles to handguns any day but sniping is my thing or was rather. For some it is speed and accuracy and others it is just accuracy. AR's was a blast for me as well but even then I would use it in such a way for more accuracy than tactical. Really any and all will be a blast (no pun intended) as it is fun to have some competition and promote skill. Just my .02

It all depends on how many show up.
Sure, bring a cot or air mattress. That way your sleeping arrangements will be covered.

I enjoy reds.
I also enjoy desert wines such as ports, sauternes and Tokaji (If you even have it).
238. Author: Mattie BDate: Fri, 3/9/2018, 8:53PM EST
The reds typically are consumed, but I’ll see what I have.

I do have several Chards, Pinot Gris, Pinot Grigio and maybe a few Sauv Blanc. I’m not a huge fan of whites, so those tend to sit around.

I’m sure I can put something together.
