http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/24/us/mississippi-schools-lawsuit-southern-poverty-law/
I won't post the whole story... basically, poor black children in Mississippi receive the worst education in the nation by nearly all accounts... white kids in the sip aren't much better off...
The above suit alleges a lack of books, teachers, toilet paper, working toilets, edible food, and a whole lot of other things at poor, predominately black schools in the sip...
My thought is this: why the $#%@ is anyone against school vouchers? If every parents has $15k per child to spend on nothing but school, then anyone who cares about these disadvantaged kids Could open a school in these poor neighborhoods and provide them with as quality an education as just about anywhere in the US...
I've probably just made an overly simplistic argument that can be easily defeated, so by all means, someone please tell me why I'm wrong... |

Simple economics. If every family received $15, 000 in vouchers the market would adjust to an even more inflated rate and the cost of goods would skyrocket. |

Well what i meant by comparing public schools to trump university is, a bunch of people have realized there's good money in undereducating... trump knows it, hence trump u... and some folks down Mississippi way seem to have figured it out too, hence sh*tty schools for black kids where the toilets don't flush, the food can't be eaten, and the text books recommend confederate solidarity in these uncertain times.... |

I got you. That was sort of my point too.... when a hail storm comes and insurance money starts to flow I always see lots of out of state plates and sub standard roofs being built.... but that's the home owners fault. I guess you could say the same for education but you really only get one shot and it's not the kids fault. |

Ya good point... i rarely try to be an optimist, but i guess i just hope if school choice becomes a reality, then people who actually care about educating will finally get a crack at forming schools that provide solid education to kids who wouldn't otherwise have it because of money limitation...
But ya, it makes sense that the exact opposite type of person would also get a crack at providing a much sh*ttier education... but it seems like right now, these people already have a monopoly on the educational system in places like the sip... a voucher program would allow parents to tell those people to f*ck off, were gonna send our kids somewhere else....

Not much industry growth here in da swamp. You have your well-to-do cities like any other states. You also have struggling small towns that commerce pulled out of years ago... Just like other states. With low taxes and property values, there isn't much need for high paying jobs. Mississippi has a struggle getting doctors to practice in the state for this very reason. It's a reflection of today's economy. They just felt like poking Mississippi today.
With all the bears, hawgs, gators, Cougars, and venomous snakes in all flavors, The politicians ain't the only predators round' here.

After swapping a few texts with Frank, I decided to pop in.
Just to clear the air....
It's the poor democratic communities that are against the charter school idea. These schools, in the article, that are poor is no fault of the government. See a school receives money based on attendance. If parents don't make kids attend, the school district doesn't get that money. So it's the parents that allow kids to skip or drop out that are the root cause. My son attends a nice public school. The school begs me to get a dr excuse if he's absent. That way the missed day is excused and doesn't cost funds.
Also it's the democrats that are fighting against charter schools. They don't want that money to leave.
So know the facts before pointing a finger. |

For the most part, schools are controlled by the teacher's unions who overwhelmingly support Democratic candidates. Is it any wonder why Democrats are against anything that would reduce their power? Yet, they blame Republicans for ruining schools and people actually believe what they say. |

38. Author: Mattie B | Date: Thu, 5/25/2017, 10:21AM EST
You can't regulate parents to care/invest is their children.
My solution would be charter schools. If kids don't perform or attend, kick them out to the public school system. Our district has what they call the alternative school. This is a campus for those with disciplinary issues They get the attention they need and remove them from those who are willing to act right.
Kids need to learn there are consequences for action, or rewards. I think that lesson has been lost.

Even though it seems counter intuitive the poor students need to be rewarded for becoming good students. Just kicking them out doesn't solve the problem. It continues a vicious cycle. |
42. Author: abjd14 | Date: Thu, 5/25/2017, 11:08AM EST
The problem is public schools but if kids don't perform in the charter schools u want to kick them out back to the public schools. That will create a bigger problem. (This is actually happening already in great numbers)

the thing about schools in general, especially high schools, they're not a place for smart people to be, right? there's not a single subject I was taught in high school over the course of 4 years that I can't learn more about in 2 weeks watching youtube videos... the way of educating young people in this country is archaic and outdated at best... |

that does seem to be the argument against homeschooling... it's weird because homeschooled kids I've met (aside from the ultra religious crazies) seem to be very well adjusted... they attend youth groups, they play sports, many of them work small part time jobs, they're more likely to attend college, more likely to get good paying jobs, less likely to be involved in gangs, drugs, domestic violence, teen pregnancy... but I guess all those things don't transate into the real world if you don't have 1000 instagram posts and 50,000 twitter followers... #socialskills... |

The odd girl out on my daughters softball team was home schooled. She was very socially awkward and an outcast. She would get upset at the other girls for "chanting" when they were doing the typical cheers etc. She ended up leaving the team. That's just anecdotal and a denominator of 1 but in here that's good enough. |
