It was complicated, but in the end you get taxed if you don't have medical insurance in MA and I believe that was part of Romneycare.

And to be fair bammy care grew out of romney care but romney care wasnt romney's idea. it came out of a conservative think tank. too lazy to look up which one at the moment. the whole thing really grew out of a conservative republican idea.

Politics and marketing is a strange thing. Because all things obama was and is evil, the dems pushed this through in a ham handed (and wrong .. just like the tax law) way making things worse.

and here we are.

it's complicated...Republicans used to think like Democrats, and vice versa (southern Democrats were pro-slavery in Lincoln's day)...then they changed their platforms ...a couple of times in history...latest switch was all the Southern Democrats switching to GOP after the passage of the Civil Rights Act...

Then your hair is a bird until you do look it up and name it. Most Repubs are not conservatives.
60. Author: frankj1Date: Thu, 1/25/2018, 6:20PM EST
Romney liked it because one benefit was that it would save taxpayers money...there are more than taxes that cost the public money...because having coverage meant having primary care docs instead of using ER's for everything normal, etc. etc. etc.

It's not stupid for a GOP guy to accept something outside of pure dogma if it will end up saving millions for his constituents.

Try it sometime...country over party is a good thing.

Well, y’all can make jokes about it all you want, but I’m 10,000% serious. Lincoln’s list of gay lovers is as long as your arm. When you look at Lincoln as a gay liberal, everything he did starts to make sense.

72. Author: jetblastedDate: Fri, 1/26/2018, 12:28AM EST
Nah. He was a gay homo from waaay back. Every his mother knew he “was never fond of girls”. Lincoln wrote the the first poem about gay marriage in 1828 (?)

I will tell you a Joke about Jewel and Mary
It is neither a Joke nor a Story
For Rubin and Charles has married two girls
But Billy has married a boy
The girlies he had tried on every Side
But none could he get to agree
All was in vain he went home again
And since that is married to Natty
So Billy and Natty agreed very well
And mama’s well pleased at the match
The egg it is laid but Natty’s afraid
The Shell is So Soft that it never will hatch
But Betsy she said you Cursed bald head
My Suitor you never Can be
Beside your low crotch proclaims you a botch
And that never Can serve for me

-Abraham Lincoln was a Homosexual

Spey I actually agree most republicans are not conservative anymore. They used to be. A lot of folks took over the party claiming the long time republicans were rinos which is ironic since actually they are the rinos but needed a party to be effective.

I probably see it different than kawak but come to the same conclusion.

Not much of what the Republican Party is doing as of late is what I would consider conservative, especially fiscally.

Good question. I was going to read this and let you know....but, I got bored with it:

https://prod-cdn-static.gop.com/static/home/data/platform.pdf

I did do a quick 'find', for "conservative" and the word is only used twice and only once does it sort of get to their 'position'

So, give it a read and let us know
85. Author: delta1Date: Fri, 1/26/2018, 1:00PM EST
It does seem as if conservative ideology and GOP have become untethered. Conservative traditionalist stalwarts George Will and Bill Kristol now spend more time on left leaning cable opinion shows on MSNBC and CNN taking shots at Trump and the GOP Congress, than cheerleading on Fox...

I know you're just kidding, but I don't think that's what anyone is saying.

Here in Massachusetts we had Romney.
He's as progressive as it gets (for a Republican) and some of his actions may have lost staunch conservative votes at the national level. But he wasn't a poser like Gov Baker is today.

In my opinion, the Obama-over-Romney vote is the major reason we now have a President Trump.

no surprise, I like Baker better. Even voted for him.

But a lot of that was because I knew that Romney viewed the position as a resume builder/stepping stone...and I was correct. In Romney's case, I could have lived with some of the trade offs of his politics, but I could not live with the man.

I will regret the wording of that last sentence, but you get my point.

Ok.... I think I get it.

Liberals all are anti-slavery gays...

And conservatives are all super straight guys who wish we never got rid of slavery.

Remind me again tail, are you a liberal or a conservative?

That depends if the slave is gay.

Im not saying “all”. I’m saying Lincoln was a Liberal Homosexual. Take the “radical republicans”. They were as far left as you could get back then. They were all based in Northern States. Abolition started in Massachusetts. Northen States have always (then & now) been Liberal. Southern States have always been conservative, then & now. Lincoln was a (bi) sexual. The famously crazy Mary Todd was a political prop. No one wanted her. Lincoln was just as famous for failing to attract, and hold on to a number of women.

But, sorry for the thread jack. I just couldn’t pass up “correcting the record”.

Still don't get it Jet.

Your implication is that being anti-slavery is a leftist thing.... ie "Take the “radical republicans”. They were as far left as you could get back then."....

I mean, if you're pro-slavery that's your thing, but maybe you should reconsider whether you want to say it's platform of the conservatives.... ie "Southern States have always been conservative, then & now. ".... you're sort of implying that even now, it's only the liberal north that doesn't want to go back to slavery.

I thought that since you asked a totally unrelated question in the midst of a semi-humorous exchange with Jet that your question was either in jest or simply rhetorical.

Now we know it was just stupid.
