Other than the Main Street Station breakfast buffet, I rarely go to any other buffets. Got too many other places I normally go to when I’m there. The Oyster Bar, M&M Soul Food, Triple 7, Sammy’s LA Pastrami (…gonna try Greenberg’s next trip…), as well as rotating pho and sushi places. So many places, so little stomach space.

29/56 in LA today. Going to be sunny with wind at 5 and becoming calm this afternoon.

It will be a nice afternoon to sit outback and have a cigar and a couple of adult beverages.

May have to fire up the egg.

40/70 here and 70s all next week. Phoenix Open will be in town and looks like shorts weather. Scored tickets from a scalper.

Definitely layabout day after the 5 miler and a little exercise of the 4 speed. BTW, curling sucks as a spectator sport.

Good Sunday Morning! It's a clear 34° on the way to 52° today.

A good day to stay inside and submit all the medical bill I scanned yesterday for reimbursement. My wife and I receive an annual stipend for medical bills. The stipend is supposed to be a substitute for a broken promise from my last employer to provide medical coverage after retirement. I spent zero on prescriptions last year, I have a stockpile of migraine drugs, and some antibiotics were no charge, but my wife's prescriptions and dental bills asure we tap out the stipend for another year.

Couldn’t help myself, we bought a Sony yesterday. An A80J 55”. Picture was definitely the best between LG, SS and Sony. Won’t be delivered till next week so will have to “suffer” and watch the SB on our oldie. No big deal, I doubt that I’ll be glued to the game anyway. Maybe I’ll wash and wax my wife’s car instead.

When we first moved into our house 34 years ago, holding a SB gathering was my thing. Mostly h.s. classmates and a couple of tennis buddies and former co-workers. Pot luck, BYOB, lotta in-game betting, I hardly got to watch the games. Then, after about 10 years, I got sick as a dog and had to cancel it. The Packers won the SB that year so when they went back-to-back appearances, I planned a YUGE gathering.

Franking Denver won. What a miserable day! Crying

The next year our son had a soccer game so no gathering. Rained like a MFer during the game and I got soaked like a wharf rat. 🐀

In the interim, one of my buddies (…CBidder HOnizuka…) took the torch and has held the party ever since (…other than the COVID no-gatherings year…). ThumpUp

Quite frankly, I don’t miss hosting it. While my kids enjoyed it ‘cause they got to see their many “uncles”, wifey not so much. And it was a lotta work and tough to watch the game when you’re the host.

Watching the Pro Bowl (…I dunno why…) and sheesh, not a fan of the Tim Brown rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

Probably portends how much I’ll enjoy / watch the touch football game.

^Yessir... did it a couple times when I first got back to the US in the 90's. In fact, when the Niners won it all against SD in 1994... I was living in SD and the only Niner fan in the apartment complex.

Great day. That game was over after the second series.

Man, talk about a blowout! I don’t wanna say that game was boring but it was franking tough to watch. From the little that I remember about it, didn’t the Niners score on the very first play from scrimmage? A Young to Rice bomb? Or catch and really long run?

Sometimes the playoff games are better than the SB but there have been some great SB as well.
377. Author: MACSDate: Sun, 2/6/2022, 3:16PM EST
IIRC they scored the first 7 times they had the ball and it was like 49-10 and then they just stepped off the gas.

The pass from Young to Rice was the 3rd play. Fastest TD in SB history at the time. Forced a punt, went up 14-0 and that was the fastest a team scored 2 TD's in a SB. San Diego never got close.

Edit: It's never fun to watch a blowout unless your team is the one whooping the ass. Then it's fun.

Super Bowl party time!!

when we lived in Downey, we hosted football parties nearly every week-end...my niece was an USC song girl and my wife and siblings and our kids were SC grads...only a few of us Bruins there... but it was fun to watch on TV...and the Trojans were exciting then, during Pete Carroll's tenure...

that house was perfect for large gatherings with a huge great room that could comfortably seat 30 people with a large screen TV at one end...it opened into a large enclosed patio that could accommodate another 20 with another large screen TV...we only hosted that many a couple of times, for Super Bowl games...as host, it was tough to watch much of the game, making sure food was hot and drinks were cold and restocked, clutter cleared away, little kids entertained...and on and on

after we moved, we tried to host a football party, but we had moved too far away, and the new house doesn't have a great floor plan...no huge room like at the other house and the pool encroaches into the patio...

wife and I are older now and OK with not hosting football parties...it was a lot of work after folks go home...cleaning up pots and pans and dishes and glasses, ovens and grills, taking out the trash, putting folding chairs and tables away, re-arranging furniture...but I miss that house...we had it totally renovated to those specs with football parties in mind...

Spaghetti sauce queued up for tomorrow in the crock pot. Typical tomato sauce, paste and crushed toms from a can. Typical Italian herbs, onion, garlic. Mild ground sausage browned and tossed in. Pound of hot Italian sausage links (cut up to bite size pieces) tossed in. Put it on low in the morning and let it go. Gotta go out and get me some garlic bread, forgot to pick one... or make a fresh loaf here but thinking its easier to go get one.

Do some baby back ribs too for a special order, low and slow in another crock pot or the oven.

The place will be filled with wonderful aromas by late afternoon.

46/53 with 40% chance of rain today with wind at 5.

The wife has empowered me to make a commissary run today.

While there I will make a sttop at the liquor store.
\
For the past three or four months the liquor offerings have been very slim.

I guess that is due to no supply chain issues as well as citizens having more money to spend.

Good Monday Morning! It's an overcast and rainy 47° on the way to 49° today. Changing alarm batteries today, always "love" the 12 for stepladder to get one smoke alarm. We have three smoke alarms connected to the alarm system, annual CR123 lithium battery changes required. I put 12 year life 9 volt lithiums in our wired in smoke alarms.

PSA: Do not buy single use lithium batteries on Amazon, you are likely to get a counterfeit and or a battery that is below specification. I had problems with the alarm system panic button batteries until I got batteries from an industrial supply house, DigiKey. They were recommended to me by the makers of my attic and crawl space humidity/temperature monitoring system, SensorPush. Their rices are fair and drop when you by 10 or more.

https://www.digikey.com

If you need excellent wireless* temperature and humidity monitoring, SensorPush is really good. Not just wifi wireless, the sensors can be connected to a local hub and accessed remotely over the internet. Apparently growers use them too, they used to have some pretty interesting pictures on the Facebook page.
