Spiny, the reason FOX seems like brain washing to you is that they're the first and only media outlet I know of that has not been almost 100% liberal. They do have a conservative slant on some issues, and they also represent the liberal view, have people on their shows to espouse that opinion (Geneene Geraffelo (sp)) For goodness sake! You can't think she is conservative!?? And Allan Combs? What about that blond repulsive democrat lady who sounds like the female equivalent of Al Sharpton? I can’t recall her name, but she makes me violently ill every time I see her! Estrich! That's it!! Have you never seen these people on the channel? They have quite a few liberal spokespeople, the difference is, they also have conservatives. Something you don't see on the other channels... Do you disagree?

George Stephenopolis?(sp) yeah, he’s not got an agenda…

And Chris, no, he's not "as worthless" as Al Sharpton...

I have to agree that they do invite liberals on their programs albiet mostly to talk over them. (See Bill O'Reilly). I do give props to "Hannity & Colmes as they mostly give both sides a fair hearing. (a little sensationalist but balanced none the less).

The "liberal" media you refer to does the same. I see them inviting Conservative representatives on their programs so they too can tear them apart. It's a fun game and I'm sure it's a boost for the ratings but it's got very little to do with good journalism. My real beef with this crap is that it serves no other purpouse but polarize the country.

humm, ever watch ABC World News Tonight? You don't think they're sensationalizing? Heck, they're more polarizing than a good pair of Foster Grants!! It's a question of perspective, if you're basic ethos is concervative, you'll believe that ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN are all basically liberal and that Fox is basically concervative. If your basic ethos is liberal (call it "centerist or moderate if it makes you happy"), then you'll believe that there is no liberal media bias and that FOX is just way off the deep end Right wing. That's the way I see it with folks I know and speak to at work.

The biggest differnece between Foxnews and the "other" networks is not their political leanings. It is their honesty.
When Fox has O'Reilly et al spewing their opinions, it is just that: Opinions.
They make no appologies, and don't try to sell it off as "news". They have a predominantly conservative cast, and those TV personalities pick and choose subject matter of their choice.

Step over to CNN, MSNBC, and the Big Three and you'll not find such honesty. They offer what appears to be "News", but they instead provide their personal beliefs.
Nobody minds when a station shows Donahue spewing liberal rhetoric. At least it's an open and honest display of leftism. But when that same network shows the "evening news", they should report the news, not their beliefs.

I mostly agree with you Robby. Much of the percieved bias is due to perspective of the viewer. My problem with FOX is that they go out of their way to tell you how non biased they are when IMHO, they are every bit as bad as the rest of the networks.

In response to Tailgater,

""""The biggest differnece between Foxnews and the "other" networks is not their political leanings. It is their honesty."""

You don't really believe that "fair and balanced" crap they are feeding you every 10 minutes do you?
A little piece of advice for you. Most con artist will start off by telling you how honest they are and how others are out to rip you off. Kind of why they are called "confidence men". Watch your wallet brother.

""" When Fox has O'Reilly et al are spewing their opinions, it is just that: Opinions. They make no appologies, and don't try to sell it off as "news". """

Then why is it under the Banner of fox "NEWS"? Even has the nifty little fox NEWS icon in the corner of the screen. Shouldn't it read Fox OPINION? The Icon on the sports programs reads FOX Sports.
If it isn't NEWS, they sure are spending a lot of effort dressing it up as such.

"""They have a predominantly conservative cast, and those TV personalities pick and choose subject matter of their choice. """"

Let me see now, you are saying that Rupert Murdoch et al are going to give someone a national audience and then give them complete control over content? Your more gulliable then I had originally thought.

""""Step over to CNN, MSNBC, and the Big Three and you'll not find such honesty. They offer what appears to be "News", but they instead provide their personal beliefs. """

They don't give their personal beliefs any more then Sheperd Smith, Bret Hume, Greta Van Susteren and Oliver North. I see these individuals giving their opinions on the news at every broadcast.

"""Nobody minds when a station shows Donahue spewing liberal rhetoric. At least it's an open and honest display of leftism. But when that same network shows the "evening news", they should report the news, not their beliefs."""

I think we agree here. NO REPORTER OR NEWSREADER SHOULD BE GIVING THEIR OPINIONS ON THE NEWS STORIES THAT THEY ARE REPORTING! EVER!
It's lousy journalism that calls their objectivity into question. Problem is, It's a problem that has become widespread. If you are giving editorial opinion, it should be clearly labeled as such. (That's why newspapers have editorial pages.)

As for the FOX News network, I say,
Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

Spiney, I stand by what I said.
Regardless of what the station is called, they have programs intended to provoke thought and debate. If you feel swindled and misled, it's perhaps due more to your expectations than to their intentions.

"Fair and Balanced" is their marketing catch phrase. It doesn't mean that they can't offer opinions based on their own beliefs.

About three weeks ago, I was watching an interview on CNN. A democratic party consultant was explaining how the republican party was poised to take the 2004 elections. The blonde "news" gal asked "how can we counteract this?".
After a long silent pause, she caught herself and corrected the question with "...I mean, how can the democrats counter this?"
The pause was the key. She made a mistake, and the guy being interview actually was caught off guard.

Immediately after the interview, she concluded the "news" program by reading late breaking news.

The difference is that the personalities on FoxNews don't try to hide their political leanings. No appologies needed.

So maybe they need to change their marketing phrase to simply "Fair and Honest". Either way, they are straight shooters.
