Has anyone found a cigar that is comparable to the Ashton VSG but relatively cheaper and easier to find? Maybe its a long shot, but the VSGs are rapidly becoming my favorite cigar and I can't really afford them. Any input is appreciated.

Try Flor de Ybor City No.85, a bundled cigar rolled with an Ecuadorian sun grown wrapper and made by Fuente, as, of course, is the VSG. They're toro sized and priced at about $2.50 each.

You may also want to consider Occidental Havana Sungrown and National Sungrown. The OHSG are made for Alec Bradley by Kelner in the Davidoff factory. The Nationals are very cheap and made by the Eiroas who also make Camacho, La Fontana, Baccarat, Monte Carlo.

Got a couple Ybor Citys at HFF3, a #270 and a Belicoso. Nasty.

#270 and belicoso are very different from the #85. You know it's impossible to generalize from a couple of sticks, particularly when they aren't the same cigar as the one in question.

Steve, your point is understood and agreed with, up to a point. I have found enough cigars to keep me happy the rest of my days. I have tried two of this brand and see no reason to spend any money trying the third size; squandering of resources.

I'd suggest you try the Montesino cigars (also made by Fuente). I think they're very comparable to AVSG but at 1/3 the price.

I have been curious to try the FDYC #85's for a while, having seen reviews of it several times. I thought you could only get it from the place in FL with no internet site. Could someone tell me where to find them.

They can only be purchased from one vendor in Florida. He does have an internet site. I can't remember if the owner is a relative of the Fuentes, but I know there is a relationship that goes back many years to Cuba.
X is correct. If you use the Google search engine and simply key in Flor de Ybor City, you'll find the site.
The Flor de Ybor City #85 is a 6 x 47 sungrown, slightly smaller than the Fuente Gran Reserva Sungrown.

While I am a big fan of VSGs, I have not enjoyed Nationals or Oliva Os. Guess it's time to squander some resources with a split.
