Also called a Primrose Tree ... but the botanical name is Lagunaria patersonii.

It's a native of the South Pacific, grows fast, is evergreen, narrow, has an upright shape, and grows to a height of 20-40'; Spread: 15'+ ...

I planted it my front yard many years ago ... so it's almost full grown, and is in full bloom right now!

It's a pretty incredible site ...

The flowers are succeeded by fuzzy brown, 5-valved loculicidal, capsules which are retained on the tree for some months.

The interior of the capsule is filled with white 'fibre-glass' hairs, which are irritant, and responsible for the vernacular names of 'Itch Tree' and 'Cow Itch Tree'.

If you open the seed pods, and the 'hairs' get on your skin, and can cause a very uncomfortable stinging 'itch' ...

... and I have no idea where they got the 'cow' part ... LOL!

I need this for my Italian garden....right along side the grape vines. Oh yeah, nothing better after a fast ride than sitting in your Italian garden enjoying a CAO Cammie.
