I just completed a Bucanero Z. Let me preface this "review" with a personal bias towards Bucanero and their fine people.

My taste buds were "cleansed" for a 5 day hiatus in the anticipation of receiving maximum pleasure from this beautiful cigar. It took great physical restraint on my part in not lighting it up sooner. $|!#, (name disguised to protect the innocent)reciprocated by sending me 2 of these highly prized cigars. It was

his way of repaying me for initiating him to Bucanero awhile back. Some of you guys remember when I was proclaiming that I'd sell my kids for a box of Full Sails. Well, I'm happy to announce that "cigar karma" was a sanctioned event.

The pre-light was quite a dilemma. What cutter to use? Xikar? Punch? V-cutter? Decisions, decisions. I made my mind up by using a V-cutter. The soft corners of the gentle box pressing lend itself to this and this is THE cutter to use on a Full Sail or El Capitan. I cut it cleanly and effortlessly. The blade made a resounding "click" sound with minimal pressure. I held it up and did a pre-light draw. I detected a pleasant and sweet taste. It was unlike any Bucanero I had ever pressed against my lips.

I toasted the foot and took my first draw...the clouds parted and the archangel's sang in unison. Buckle me seatbelt...The adventure begins...The first couple of draws I kept trying to guess what they had created. At first I thought this was the lost **** son of the El Capitan love tryst with a Classico. I was mistaken. I took a dangerously long draw and toyed with the thought of inhaling, when all of a sudden out of nowhere in the exhaled smoke appeared Rocky Balboa! He punched me once, twice, three times and I was still standing! He evaporated in the exhaled smoke in defeat. Liking the effect, I replicated it and drew long and hard. The embers glowed bright orange and red. Again I withdrew the desire to sample this cigar by inhaling only to exhale and through the smoke stood the incredible Hulk. His nostrils flared, and he growled menacingly. He reached for my cigar, and I slapped his hand back, "Get your own!" I yelled. He roared in disappointment, but I wasn't going to share this excursion into paradise with anyone.

I sat on my lanai (that's a covered porch for my sun deprived club members) with an adult libation. With about 2" of ash I decided it was time to rinse. Keg in a can, yes sir I'm talking about Heineken! Nothing too heavy, but tasty enough to not interfere with this maiden voyage. Once the life saver was properly stored it was time to continue this experience. I've seen Chris' picture on the Bucanero website and wasn't about to replicate that, but 4" of ash is easily attainable. While into the "better half" of this cigar, I kept tasting something familiar. Was this a longer Peg Leg? No, that wasn't it. My lips were smacking with the taste rolling around on them. It was so close, and then it hit me. Robert and John must've ransacked the Padron facility and beaten the master blenders with the Lombardi Trophy. They had taken the secret recipe for the '64 Anniversary! Then I realized that these guys wouldn't stoop to that level, but I'm telling you that this tasted remarkably close. Maybe they just peeked.

All good things must come to an end and this journey ended on a pleasant note. I thought about this club, and the joy its brought to me, I thought about this fine cigar and all of the people that I'll line up when it comes out and I thought about the pleasure that $|!# (name disguised to protect the innocent) knows of sharing Bucanero products. Of course, he too knows the pain associated with seeing an empty spot in his treasure chest, but that me friends is what "cigar karma" is all about! Guys, this is one cigar that is a MUST TRY! Let opinions fall like gold doubloons through our fingers, we be knowin' what we like and this here is the best booty any Bucanero buccaneer could want, well this side of a Full Sail or anything they might brew up that be stronger…Dead me tell no tales, and this be long enough!

I HAD TO SHARE THIS WITH YOU GUYS.

Great story ... and great review!

Glad you enjoyed it ... and just think ... you still have one more to look forward to until they are released!

It's the very least I could do, for the guy who introduced me to Bucanero Cigars.

For those who don't know, DrMaddVibe was the one who sent me my first two 'Full Sails', and asked nothing in return ... when I had never even heard of a Bucanero cigar. The first Bucanero that I smoked ever, was one of their best ...

... so, fortunately I had the opportunity to follow-up his generosity with something equally as impressive ...

... and sent him two unreleased 'Z' to 'put the ballast back in the ship', as it was starting to lean a little to the port side ... hehehe!

Florida Bans Smoking, RTDA Pulls Trade Show ---

Tallahassee, Fla. - Voters in Florida overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment to ban smoking in most workplaces, marking the first-ever passage of a smoke-free workplace measure in the U.S. by a statewide referendum. In November, Delaware joined California with strict statewide smoke-free air laws that were also approved by lawmakers. Maine, Utah, and Vermont have also instituted statewide regulations.
Amendment 6, which was approved by nearly 69 percent of Florida’s voters in November elections, officially becomes part of the Florida Constitution on January 7, 2003. Responsibility for implementing legislation to enforce compliance now rests with the state Legislature, which must meet a July 1, 2003 deadline.

In the meantime, state officials are advising affected businesses to start preparing to comply with the amendment as soon as possible.

The amendment bans smoking in most indoor workplaces, including restaurants. The only exceptions are for private residences not used to provide commercial child care, adult care or health care; retail tobacco shops; designated smoking guest rooms at hotels and other public lodging establishments; and stand-alone bars.

For the Retail Tobacco Dealers of America, which was scheduled to hold its 72nd annual convention and trade show at the Gaylord Palms Hotel in Orlando beginning on August 10, 2003, there was no choice but to find a new site outside of Florida in order to accommodate a smoking convention. Over the past 10 years, three RTDA conventions had been held in Florida, more than any other state. The most recent convention there was held in 1999 in Tampa, once the heart of cigar manufacturing in the U.S.

The RTDA was able to reschedule the 2003 RTDA trade show within a week of the original dates at another Gaylord Hotels property, Gaylord Opryland in Nashville (see below).

Ted Clark, executive director of the Tobacconist’s Association of America (TAA), said at press time his association had no plans to change its own annual convention, scheduled to be held in St. Petersburg, Fla. in April 2003. Should enforcement of the ban come earlier than the expected July deadline, Clark says he would have to move the meeting.

“We’d be breaking the law,” he said, noting that the meeting’s site, the Don Cesar Beach Resort & Spa, is a very cigar-oriented facility. Clark says the smaller size of the TAA would enable more last-minute maneuverability than the RTDA. “We’re in a different league,” Clark noted, but said that anything could happen between now and April.

RTDA 2003 Now Back to Nashville ---

Nashville, Tenn. - It’s been five years since the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tenn. first hosted the annual RTDA convention. Thanks to the passage of Florida’s smoking ban and an 11th hour rescheduling, the facility - since renamed the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center - will now host the 2003 RTDA show on August 2-6.

Opryland has benefited from an $80 million capital improvement program recently that has upgraded the facility, the largest combined hotel and convention center under one roof in the country.

All 2,881 guest rooms have been renovated and upgraded with business-oriented improvements including cordless phones, in-room fax access, and Internet connections. There are also new food courts, retail shops, renovated ballrooms, and - thankfully - improved signage and map systems for navigating the facility.

That my friends ... is when they will be released!

Tin,

This is the newest addition to the Bucanero line, the "Z". Slim got a box when he met the founder and sent a few to DMV to try. They will be released to the rest of the world at the beginning of August. Hope this helps.

I accidently had my camera on the lowest setting. What can I say? It was dark...I was more absorbed by the cigar...I was drinking...I'm not a pro photographer...

I've fixed that problem, so now the pictures will be much clearer in the future.

I was going to smart off and say something like, "Naw, it looks fine to me, must be your eyes", but didn't think that would fly.

Humor...it's a good thing to have.
